Early prototype CJ's people don't see...

Since Geoff@Bestop started some neat jeep finds, thought this would be cool to let people check out. Always thought agri-jeeps were cool...my Great Uncle had a CJ3B with farming implements to pull behind it. His had a live PTO, but he only had plow and discs for planting, no power units.

Enjoy! http://willys-overland.com/

Nice stuff.

I think it's interesting that, after the war, the only way they thought Jeeps would sell to the public was as a sort of tractor substitute. So the called them AgriJeeps, added PTOs, and fancy hitches for farm implements.

I've never been positive when the idea of a Jeep as a recreational vehicle first took off. But by the 50s there were clubs: someone posted a treasure trove of early club photos just a day or two ago. Can't find the post right now.

Yeah-I caught that the other night...sweet pics and movie clips. Funny thing, where I live, jeeps in the 50's-70's were used in the local oil fields here in the Bradford, PA area. My father in law used to work for Pennzoil and had an early cj5 they used on the leases to check oil wells and pull equipment to sites...small and capable on tight steep roads. There are all kinds of old cj's laying around places here in N.W. PA...can't say they are in operating condition, but can be salvaged, if you can get people to sell them...lol
