The former owner of my Jeep informed me of the wave. I may get a sticker that says... "WAVE BACK DAMNIT!"

I'm a mom and I wave. I find that most of the jeepers around me are male and they don't wave (most of the time) so the whole "women" or "soccer moms" not waving argument doesn't hold water IMO.

Actually had my first wave in my new jeep today on the way home from work, could have been because we both had tj's and they were both identical yellow lol. Passed an older yj waved and all I got was a stare, passed a couple Cherokees also but never even recieved a wave, normally I can spot a jeep coming and I won't start the wave unless they wave first, actually had an older yj yellow jeep drive past me at a red light and they didn't even look over at me or anything, used to get waves all the time in my 99 tj.

Been doing the wave ever since my CJ in 02. When I bought my 2002 TJ, the dealer told me about the wave. I didn't wave when I had my Grand Cherokee, didn't seem right. With my '97, I wave. Few things I have noticed:

Jeepers in my neck of the woods, Northern NJ and when I go to NH, usually wave back. Illinois, not so much but living in east central Illinois, Jeeps are not as common as they are here in NNJ.

I get more waves from CJ's and YJ's, followed by TJ's and a few JK's. Also I always salute to MB's, M38's and other military Jeeps.

I just bought my first wrangler (TJ) a few weeks ago and love it. I didn't know anything about the wave but I found out quickly. Riding up to Lowes with my 5 year old daughter we passed a TJ and they waved. I waved back and thought "that was nice" but didn't think anything of it. Within a minute another TJ passed and they waved too. My daughter saw both Jeeps and both waves and she asked me why they were waving at us and I said "I guess we are in some sorta Jeep Club now" and she replied "Well, I guess that means Mommy is in the van club" While LMAO I said "You are sooo right sweetie" LOL!!! We live in Acworth Georgia where there is an abundance of cool Jeep owners. Especially the CJ's, YJ's, and TJ's. I get occasional waves from JK's but it may be an education thing as stated previously. Keep waving everyone!!!!!

I'm just wonderin' if there's any states which are better with that? In NJ, seems that YJs will wave TJ/LJs will wave, but not so much the JKs. Any comments?

Yup, except for a cool looking JK that sure sounds like it has a Hemi swap here in Sussex county. NH and NJ are great about the wave, I even have a woman in a TJ wave to me almost every morning, in Illinois it is common for women in any Jeep not to wave.

i wave to all jeepers and most wave back. i live near fort benning so most military guys/girls have a good understanding of TW. here recently i have waved to fellow JKU owners that are women and they look at me with disgust! and only 10% of them would i wave at because of their looks! but i told my salesman when i bought my jeep that i was going to get my wife to make sure she waves when she sees other jeeps and he even reffered to TW, so he knows whats up!

My fingers are getting tired from passing so many Jeeps on the way to work and back. May just get a body glove decal for the windshield to save energy.

The best is one I saw last week. The guy reached out his half opened window, raised his arm so his elbow was against the window frame and .

I don't believe in any of that hierarchy nonsense. If it's a wrangler or a red Liberty (one of my neighbors drives a red liberty), then I'll wave.

I've noticed that "the wave" depends on your location. Here in Columbus, OH (where more soccer moms drive) the wave is hit and miss, but when I travel back south, I'm wavin' the whole way back.

I try to wave every time and don't care who's driving, that's just who I've noticed that doesn't wave back.

I live in the south. I've noticed the majority of people down here wave back. I wave to every Wrangler driver too. I find myself starting to wave to Jeepers when I'm driving my truck, the fire engine, or the ladder truck too, because it's become habit. Lol.

HA! You answered me on the other thread and I wondered if you were an actual fireman! I do fire dispatch and I would SO wave if you were in the engine- btw, my new Jeep is Fire Engine Red. Slightly less irritating to the PD husband than my collection of FD t-shirts that end up in his dresser LOL. And yea, I had the Jeep 24 hours when I realized it came with a freindly wave option- and no, I don't wave if it can't take its top down. My daughter and I were waving out the top today to other Jeeps- she is 15 and lovin the jeep.

Sounds like my husband. I just got my jeep and he is an avid waver when he is driving. I'm slowly but surely trying to remember regardless of who it is. :-) I sat keep waving.
