Took a 2012 JK for a test drive and got 2 of 2 waives, even with all the dealer stickers on the windows ...was quite impressed (SW Ontario).

I uncovered the secret of increasing waves tenfold.

Take the top off and go down the road when the outside temperture is around 38 degrees.

So I know I'm a little late on joining the thread. Haven't been on here too long. I didnt know about the wave until a buddy of mine told me about it. Here in Tucson its a 50/50 chance of gettin a wave back. Are their any other jeeper traditions I need to learn to not look like a complete new guy?

I wave, from my JKU, to all Jeepers. Even those non-JKU people who don't wave back.

You have to moon law enforcement at least twice during the first year of ownership. And not from a stop, need to be in at least third gear or it doesn't count.

The trick is to do it with the doors and top off.

My jeep is brand new and white (so its shiny clean right now) and no tags or anything yet.... Would it be inappropriate to initiate a wave in this condition? Haha

The more stock, the more you should wave.

If you have not seen a wave from me in the west Houston area, my apologies. I'm either watching the cars ahead of me or I don't see it in time. I DO wave and try to talk to the person if I happen to see them around the vehicle parked at the time.

Have you gone here? There is a LOT to do here with the Jeepers here.

I used to wave all the time in Indiana, here, I kinda gave up. I will still wave if waved too. But no haven't seen yours from what I see in the picture.

I'll check out the links. Thanks.

I think the lack of waves might be due to dealers not passing on the info. I knew about the wave from my husband having a Jeep a few years ago, but still waited for my Jeep dealer to tell me about it and he didn't. He seemed pretty clueless about Jeeps in general though, even though it was a Jeep dealership.

One reason that women might not wave is it might have been dangerous to them at some point. I have had 3 different times in my life where I simply looked next to me at a red light briefly and the guys in the cars decided that was an invitation to follow me. I tried to lead the last one to the police station, but lost him, dang it! So, I just look ahead when stopped at a light.

I will say that I love the wave and initiate it towards any Wrangler I see....hoping that there are no psychos that take it the wrong way. What I need to learn is how to watch for Wranglers while watching the road in front of me so I don't run over someone!

The "wave" is alive and well here in ct.! I am a three year waver myself. Although I'm in a worktruck most of the time, weekends are reserved for the wrangler! Of course, as soon as tye temp is above 60 the top and doors stay off.

Is the wave reserved for JK-TJ-YJ-CJ Jeeps, or do you guys wave to Grand Cherokees, Liberties, Compasses, Patriots, etc.?

I wave to the old Cherokees all the time and there's a patriot that waves to me so I always wave back. If any Jeep waves to me I wave back.
