Yep, new owners should've been briefed before driving off from the dealership and given a contract abt the wave.

I saw where if you buy a new Mini convertible you sign a contract saying you would keep the top down like 60% of the time! The same should be for a new Jeep Purchase where you will wave at other Jeeps.

I roll my YJ with no doors, and only a safari top. Around here, if the windows are closed and the top is up, they just don't get it. However when she's covered in mud (to include the passengers) I get the most enthusiastic waves from EVERYONE, and all the CJ,YJ, TJ guys will stop next to you and chat it up through the redlight and even the next green.

I almost never get a return wave from the drivers in newer style jeeps.

I asked a guy at an intersection what he likes about his new jeep.

He told me he likes it cause its more like a hummer now.

I wanted to kick him in the taint.

All the old school jeepers wave.

Not all the gurls tho. They probably think I look like a convict.

More and more lately I don't get return waves. It's embarrassing to acknowledge another wrangler driver on the road and get nothing in return. I wont stop doing it, but it...kinda hurts.

Although I will say, when it's both of us have tops down, or the other driver has a nicely customed wrangler...then the wave back is almost always given.

I may not have the coolest looking wrangler on the road...everything is pretty stock...but it's the only car I ever wanted and I love it.

just learned some thing new.... 6inarowmakesitgo said this includes Cherokees too??? did not know that....

several weeks ago I waved at a TJ owner who followed me into the grocery parking lot and he came over as asked me if I knew him??? I told him that "we" are an "interesting breed of cat" who drives jeep and there is an Jeep tradition to always wave.... so we chatted some more and I even got a hug from my new friend ... and he said he would start waving and tell his friends who also drive jeep....

so sometimes good things happen with just a simple wave in friendship... thats another reason why I drive a Jeep

Cheers

I believe that the first wave I ever got was from a guy in a Jeep w/ no doors and the top down. The man was also wearing a US Army uniform. That kind of made that whole week I think. I promptly waved back. Gotta love the Jeep tradition. I told a person today that was thinking about buying a Jeep that if he bought one he had to wave at all the other people in a Jeep. I mean lets face it, it ain't no Hummer.

Thank god for that!

Side note
I get waves from 50% of the jeepers I see
My girl gets about a 90%

My guess is those that don't wave bought their jeeps as practical(unless you actually pay attention to your mileage!) Means of transportation
Those that do bought it because they love jeeps.

At least its a guess.

Bought my 1st Jeep in May. My buddy was limping his 1st Jeep home a week before I got mine and he was the 1st to inform me about the wave. He said it was so cool everyone he met in a Jeep waved. And it is cool! What a great community. My wife and I love the wave. (only most of the time the 4dr jeepers don't wave back and look at you like you have a problem?)

I've had my Jeep for about two weeks now.. and there are alot of Jeeps in Hawaii... but have yet to see anybody wave at me... this is the first I've heard of the Jeep wave...

I have however seen the motorcycle wave and that was almost automatic for me and the passing motorcycle... add to that the signs for cop in the direction I'm heading and if in the same direction starting a small convoy...

None of these things have happened so far in my Jeep... maybe I'm too stock to be taken notice of... or maybe it's the uniform... I dunno...

I had a 94 Wrangler for 6 years. My first and favorite Jeep. i found out about the "Wave" the first day I had it. My brother was in the car w/ me one day and witnessed the wave. He dubbed it "The Code of the Jeep". I have been faithfully following the code since then. I see ALOT of people not respecting "The Code". I now have a 2010 Mountian and I wave @ every Jeep I see! LONG LIVE THE CODE!!!!

I usually drive my 94 YJ but the other day I was driving my Liberty. Waving at other passing Jeepers has been so automatic on my YJ, so I waved unconciously. The guy in the passing Jeep flipped me off! After a moment, I realized why!! It was actually quite funny!!

Libertys aren't considered to be "real Jeeps". They really AREN'T real Jeeps! I know, I own both and I love my beat-up-ole YJ the best! Not to put down my Liberty though! It's by far the EASIEST vehicle in the whole world to drive!!

I notice the older jeepers wave alot more than the young guys. It's about 50/50 with women. I think its cool and don't sweat it if they don't wave back.

Finally an explanation I can give my wife since she keeps reminding me how old I am when I don't get a wave!

I just joined the family in April. My boss told me about the wave...I enjoy it, my husband makes fun of me. I have been experimenting with the type of wave I want to do. I am starting to like the index/pinkie finger rock on devil horns wave. I have a hard time remembering not to wave at Jeeps when I am in my other truck (for fear they will think I am crazy and have no way of knowing I own a Jeep)

You've probably seen my comments about being tired of waving to other "JEEPs" and I've quit-except for yellow jeeps/schoolbuses/ and one little old guy/w a RED CJ that always waves to me now--well guess what

When I was in Nevada last weedend, I was being approached by a lifted, dark blue TJ and--

The guy driving, put his arm out the window, down and did a very "subdued" wave

So I went Ballastic and stuck both hands out the window-smiled and waved like it was Pamela Anderson hitching a ride !!

Things are looking up, now there are two jeeps in my jeeps little town--that know each other !!

okay, so I am new to the forum, and a first time jeep owner..... will be 40 in a few months.... mid-life crisis purchase? nah... always wanted one, and finally got one... hmmm after a dozen or so cars since my 17th birthday....

anyway... on to the topic.

I bought... yes...... a JK three days ago! why? because i fell in love with it when I saw it on the lot. When I bought it I was told about the wave, even though I already new about it. My experience so far? at least a dozen waves to other jeeps, and 2 waves back. Not sure if that whole hierarchy thing works against we the JK drivers. Do all other 2 door jeep wrangler owners think less of us because we have families, and look for a bigger jeep? just because I coach soccer, and could be considered a soccer dad still does not mean I will not enjoy my jeep during the winter months, and sloppy fall muddy months.

cut JK owners some slack, and wave back yall!!!

I always wave to other jeepers, stock or completely custom. 90% of the time i get a wave back. I have an nearly complete stock jeep, and i get waves from custom jeeps. When i dont get a wave from another jeep, like mjackson681 said, it hurts a little. It really annoys me when, its obvious that the other person is a TRUE jeeper, jeep completely covered in mud, driver covered in mud, and you wave and they look at you like your crazy.

My dealer asked if I knew the rules for owning a jeep.

I said "Wave?"

"Up.... That's it."

roxbury, you will not regret your purchase... I love my jeep!!!!

okay lets be honest, it is not even one week old for me, and no problems, so of course i love it.... will i be saying that if I have problems with it? hmmmm

Although, I intend to have it for years to come, and to be honest my almost 11 year old is looking forward to it being his first vehicle.... so I hope to have many good years with it.

enjoy!!!!

I'm a new member and owner and I got a wave the following morning from an older driver of a Jeep ( sorry, don't know the model. Newbie) and I waved back. I love to wave at other Jeep owners, but most don't wave. Primarily the JK Unlimited drivers, especially the suburban family. For some reason they irritate me. Anyone else?

don't get me started on that again..... i am a suburbanite, soccer coach dad.... that loves to frolic in dirt, etc... I wave to all jeeps, and rarely have gotten a wave back 1 week of owning a jeep, and only two waves... dozens of jeeps. no excuse unless of course if they are pretentious jeep owners, and think they are better than me for some strange reason.

stop picking on the JK owners already.... we are all jeep owners no matter what the model.

I've only owned my jeep for a few days and it was during my test drive that I got my first wave.
