Deb, you scare me.

My wife told me a story about her boss who was pulled over in her BMW "M" Z3 a while back. She had the convertible down and was driving down the road waving her hands above her head and a cop pulled her over for it. He asked her how she was driving and she told him she was using her knees. When he didn't believe her, he told her if she could drive for a quarter mile with her knees without weaving, he wouldn't give her a ticket, but he was going to follow her. She agreed.

So, she pulls out with the cop behind her and continues on her way, keeping her hands above her head. She turned a corner using her knees, keeping her hands above her head while waving to the cop the entire time, and sure enough, he let her go.

Go figure...

As for me, I've never been able to do it. I think my legs are too long because they get jammed up between the dash and the steering wheel. I guess even if I could do it, I probably wouldn't. I don't even do as much as drink a soda while driving.

I know I'm late to the party, but for the money (all 98˘ of it), it doesn't get better than two Swanson Beef Pot Pies on a winter afternoon.

Anybody who doesn't wave back is a knucklehead. Their problem, not yours.

Pre-JK owners can think I'm a "knucklehead" all they like. They can wave to me first.

Impossible. Rubicons are real Jeeps, Saharas are pretty mall crawlers, and Sports...well, they're just...Sports.

I have the latest and greatest of all Jeeps, the JK Rubicon. As far as I'm concerned, I own the King of the Hill until the next generation debuts. Until that day, I will not even bother to acknowledge another Wrangler first unless it's a JK Rubicon. You and every other non-JK Rubicon should feel damned honored I'd even share a parking lot with any of you.

Let's simplify things -- how about this: Let's all give the finger to every other Jeep we see.

The friendly and enthusiastic among us will know it's an inside joke.

The mall crawlers won't notice, since they're weaving around, talking on the phone and texting all the time anyway.

Drivers of other brands will see it as a validation of what they already think of Jeep owners.

And the Jeepers who are trying to quickly complete an aftermarket inventory checklist of the waver - to see if they are eligible for a return wave - will get what they deserve.

Done and done? EASY!

I like it! Do we use just one finger or can we use more than one?

If I can weave around, text, drink coffee, change the radio station AND shift while waving at another wrangler (any one wil do) driving around on my Pep Boys specials, would that give me an 'above-average' mall crawler status? Just wondering...

I believe that gets you the coveted triple A mall crawler status

Since we're all friends & this thread is for educational purposes...for my own further clarification, does "mall crawler" just = any Jeep not used for off road or is there a lot more to it than that?

Depends on who you ask. Some people say it is only a designation for really modded up Jeeps that never off road. Others use it to talk down on any Jeep that doesn't offroad.

Yes, young grasshopper. The ancients from the Kingdom of Willis hath writ that two fingers are okay, as long as they're comprised of one middle finger on each hand. But there is no ancient scriptural knowledge regarding steering with your knees or shifting gears with your elbow. Learn and grow, young one.

Not that anybody gives a flip what I think, but to me, 'Mall Crawler' means any city or suburban-bred JK or JKU driven by someone who won't wave back... somebody who doesn't understand the wave, or the Jeep culture.

It doesn't matter whether it's bone-stock, been modded or goes off-road. The wave is a unique and fun element of Jeep ownership. It ties us together with a common interest.

But you can clearly see on this forum that there's a battle underway to keep it. My two cents.
