Those who don't wave are the people who own a jeep for the name/look or those who rent them. So if you wave and don't get anything back, don't thing much of it

I hate to say it but there are so many jeeps out here in hawaii, esp. YJ's and jk's, that people don't wave as much it was a sad day when i passed 15 jeeps and no wave!

Wave at the Jeep. If you get a wave back from the driver, that's a bonus. Move on, keep waving, be happy....you own a Jeep.

Getting the Jeep wave in something other than a Jeep has got to be worth some bonus points there!!

Hell yeah! It's one of the reasons I want to buy a jeep as soon as possible. Plus I crashed my jeep patriot. Damn ice. But I plan to look into some of my friends custom diesel conversions for other cars that'll work for the wrangler.

I dont know, maybe it is just me because I am so ugly? But, I will slow down a bit when I see a Jeep coming up along side me and dont even get a nod. I will get a wave every now and again but, seems like more ppl are doing so now.
My question is this beings that I am a newbie but, how about Cherokee's?

I think you should wave at whoever you want. They may not be expecting it, and you might make their day. :-)

I did that just this morning. Took the Escort up to fuel and get meds for my mother and waved at a JK. I saw the guy look at me with a puzzled look like"do I know this guy?" I laughed and drove on.

Storytime:

Bought a new Wrangler in Daytona, Fla couple weeks ago. I knew about the wave beforehand, and since I was so proud to be an owner, I immediately waved to any and every wrangler on the road, and I noticed a couple things. While in florida, EVERYONE waved back, especially in the ocala area. Which makes sense, theres a huge sense of pride in jeep owners in the area. As i drove 75 north, the waves subsided, and when I got back to Atlanta, they had all but dissapeared.
It made sense to me, I mean, for the normal person driving a jeep in atlanta, chances are it isnt for offroading, and if its modded, it may just be for looks (i.e. its way too clean).
But then just yesterday I got my first atlanta wave, from a wrangler that was obviously not built for city streets (and also not clean, at all). For that split second there was a real connection with another jeeper who actually felt pain in driving on asphalt. Then as I drove past, I saw the sticker on the tailgate that said Daytona Jeep. Its strange but I really cant tell you how happy/proud that made me.
Guess the point of this story is, wave to any and every wrangler on the road, wherever you are, highway or fire road, regardless of who is in the drivers seat. You never know when it will brighten up the day of another wrangler owner trapped in paved road hell, or you may just have your day brightened up yourself.

Theres people like us everywhere

As an XJ driver, I haven't gotten a wave back from another XJ. yet. But i still wave whenever i get a chance. I do occasionally get a wave back from YJ's and TJs.

I now wave to about any Jeep I see and some times get waves from XJ's. It seems it is the soccer moms that drive the new off the lot Jeeps that I never get a wave from. Oh well, Just keep waving and maybe they will realize?

Which tells me it's not snobbery, it's ignorance. They just don't know what they are missing... Sniff. I am sad for them.

My wife always says that it's weird that only Jeepers wave at each other.

My husband says that too. I rarely let him drive the jeep. I tell him he doesn't deserve to drive it since he doesn't appreciate. He laughs at me and calls me insane!!!

Yep, do it all the time when I drive the work truck. I guess I am just always in my Jeep in my mind. Now if this damned cold would just go away...

I do the four-fingers-off-the-steering-wheel-nonchalant-howdy at all Wranglers. Unfortunately, only about half of them respond. I still do it, though.

But now I also wave my middle finger at FJs and Hummers. I noticed that pretty much ALL of them return the salute.

Maybe it's all in the technique...

I found a new jeeper today and started trying to tell him about the wave and he just looked at me like I was weird. Oh well. Guess he'll figure it out eventually.
