I've noticed that most stock jeeps don't wave back in my area (Colorado). I would suspect that here at least there are people who drive a jeep and people who are jeepers. I personally like the JK model but don't need that size yet. When my family grows so will the jeep. But until then, and regardless of out come, this two door jeeper waves at all jeeps. :-)

I'm in Colorado as well and I'm with you. There are a lot of non-wavers. However, I am not one of them. Long live the sign of the Jeeper (even though my daughter tells me I'm a dork for doing it).

stop picking on the JK owners already.... we are all jeep owners no matter what the model.
I'm sorry if I came across that way. I own a JK myself. It's just an observation I've noticed. I do believe that some are pretentious for some reason. If they want to be that way they should buy a Hummer.

Lol I had an 06' hummer h2 that I bought brand new. I never got a wave nor did I initiate a wave. After owning my 08' sahara unlimited (jk right?) for 2 months, I've received one wave by a couple in a 2 door newer rubicon. I loved it! It made me feel special lol. But for all others stock or not, they don't even look over and I don't want to feel stupid with my hand in the air so I just check out their ride and that's all but I always complement them silently

Where I live (south/central NJ) just about everyone waives! If I go a day without it's strange.

The wave is alive and well North of Atlanta. I get about 4 out of 5 return waves. Most of the ones that are non-responsive are 4 door JKs driven by frazzled moms.

Keep waving.

I was driving from Rochester, NY to Sacramento, CA. I kept off the interstate and took state highways and country roads. The roads were beautiful and real fun to drive on.
What i noticed was that generally i was getting waves from other jeepers except in colorado and california. But the thing that took me by surprise was the waves i got from non jeepers. pickups, big rigs, and a couple cars. most of the pickups i crossed in missouri and Kansas waved. I dont know if it was Jeep or my NY plates or probably people in the country area are just more friendly. I must've got more waves in this trip than all the waves i got in 1 year of owning this jeep. and 3 weeks in CA, got 3 waves max. though seeing a lot of jeeps around here.
WAVE JEEPERS WAVE..

Great thread - I've only owned my JK for 8 months, but I learned the "wave" by experience here in the mountainous west; Never realized it when shopping for my perfect 4X4, nor had the dealer mentioned it. Within a week, I had realized the camaraderie between complete strangers that sport Wranglers on the streets and trail!

I have to stop complaining. The other day I actually exchanged waves with a guy going the opposite direction on I-80. There is a quandary I've run into which is sort of humorous. Months before purchasing this Sahara, I would pass a handsome yellow jeep stripped down, lifted and tricked out for off road every morning going to work. Well, I'm still passing him every morning. Sometimes he waves and sometimes he doesn't. Is there a protocol covering this situation?

Talking

I've had my Rubi for three months now (been waiting since I was 17 and am now 50!!!). In Alberta I have noticed we wave and do the "head nod and smile." probably my finest moment was two weeks after I got it... took the top off and was driving down the highway with the radio blasting drinking a hot coffee getting looks and waves...I just couldn't stop smiling...

yesterday was a great Jeep wave day almost everyone I passed waved except for maybe a few girls in their early 20s with shiny new JKs even had one initiated by a guy in a far higher scoring rig and one from a farmer in his field beside 68-80. Today not one returned wave I guess there are good days and bad.

Hmmm... My mom had a CJ 30 years ago when I was young. Everybody waved. I got my TJ 4 months ago and a number of people waved and it was then that I recalled the jeep wave. I was gone for 3 months and the college students returned in the mean time. Now when I see a jeep and wave, it seems that 1/20 actually wave back or even notice a fellow jeeper.

It doesn't matter which model really. It's too bad , but I especially don't like it when I have friends in my jeep with me and I wave to a passing jeep and am ignored. The friends must be thinking that I'm a dork. Oh well, I keep trying! So wave, Fairbanks!

Easy on the college kids there. I'm in college and wave to everyone. Its in the 60s here and I've still got the top down and doors off. I think its just as much a fault of the professors. I think many people are either ignorant of the practice or just want the Jeep for the 4x4 for which a hummer or other SUV would serve a better purpose.

Sorry, but the point that I was trying to make is that there was a significant difference in the number of waves received in late May compared to September... I am hypothesizing about the difference of the jeepers between these two periods. Being topless in Fairbanks isn't common at either time as it just isn't warm enough. So I don't know. There are definitely a lot more students here now, but there are also a lot fewer tourists. Although tourists aren't driving jeeps. They're driving rental cars when they visit during the summer. Anyhow the point is that people were waving and now they're not. I'm lucky if I get 2 waves in a week, while I'm probably seeing 5 or 6 jeeps per day. I always wave anyhow.

I get ticked off when people don't wave. And then I see the old lady driving it. What can we do though?

I love the wave. Somehow it makes me feel special. In Orlando, we see the wave quite often, more often than not.

For the Colorado folks, my wife and I were out there this summer and never got one wave back. We could only attribute it to the fact we were in Ouray and so many of the jeepers were rentals that they didn't know about the Jeep protocal wave?

I wave, but have yet to get a single return except from people I already know. Maybe the wave is dead in Alberta.

Now, when I had my 1966 Volvo 1800S every other 1800 driver flashed their lights or waved or both. Though that was in the late 90's and there was probably only about 50 of them left in the province.

I'll keep waving, maybe they'll get the hint.

I wave, and so do lots of others here in Oregon, but I've noticed it is specifically only between wrangler owners. I waved at a Compass once...I won't be making that mistake again...

I never got a wave back when driving my Grand Cherokee, but the very day I traded it in on my JK Unlimited, I got three waves on the way home. I've always waved in the Cherokee and on my Harley. It's nice to get a wave back now that I'm in a Wrangler, but you gotta wonder sometimes.

A point that I think some people are missing here is, You are not waving at the person driving the Jeep, you are waving at the Jeep it's self. It is a sign of respect/honor to the trade mark, to the Jeep. I wave, show respect/honor to all Jeeps, very rarely do I get a wave in return, but that's not the point, I have shown my respect, that is the point. Most people don't understand/respect the history of the Jeep. I am asked all the time, "Why is your Jeep named Eugene?" I respect/honor the history that is JEEP !

I'll be honest and say I only wave at 2 door Jeeps... There are just too many cherokees and such bopping around the Chicago area. My GF bought a Jeep because she got such a kick out of driving my Jeep and getting waves. I think she got more waves in my Jeep than I did =)
