I always wave. since I've been waving to fellow jeepers along my regular routes home, to work, to friends houses etc... The regulars I see are all waving now. Just gotta be consistent and persistent. Some even smile and give big waves now!

While having lunch with Mark he told me that after WW2 the men were getting home and needed a ride or wanted to buy a car. They were offered many surplus vehicles. 1 was a Harley, the other was a Willys MB or Ford GPW. So as time passed and somewhere in the country one Jeep /bike driver would pass another they would wave. They waved out of respect. They knew that the vet they had just passed not only was lucky enough to make it home alive but that more then likely he saw some of the same terrible things. It was a sign of respect. Not just a common interest. When you drive your jeep and you pass another you wave no matter what. We wave to honor and remember the people that gave it all. It's not about what jeep is cool or driven by a soccer mom. It's not about who waves back or if they wheel it. I wave no mater how far across the highway I am or if it has 20" wheels. I wave first if I'm in my 1945 Willys or if I'm in my 2013 company Jeep AEV Rubicon. I wave to built XJ's, WJ's, WK's etc... So next time you're driving your Jeep and you see another one of us wave even if you know you're not going to get one back.
Thank you for this story. I am a veteran and the jeep wave means so much more now.

Vehicles that have an unwritten rule about waving to each other:

- Jeeps (duh!)

- Motorcycles (although many Harley "pirate" types/wannabe bad*sses are too cool to return it)

- VW Beetles (SiL used to have one. Even though she's blissfully unaware of the world around her, she indicated some Beetle drivers used to wave at her)

- Mini Cooper (we recently test drove a CooperS Countryman All4 - in the 20+ min test drive we passed 2-3 other Minis - they all waved (I returned the wave))

Are there any others?

The wave is actually one of the reasons I bought a Jeep..... I just love the community, and how much fun Jeepers have its like a huge dysfunctional family :P I have yet to see a grumpy Jeep driver I know when i drove mine home I was smiling the entire hour long drive home.

I've had my JK for about 9 months now and I always wave and never get a wave back. It hurts but I will still continue to wave because I love my Jeep family! Pgh jeepers clearly don't love me in return. Haha

I've noticed different waves based on if the top is down, doors are off, hard top is on. As someone who sold a motorcycle and is a new jeep owner I'm loving the smiles I get from fellow wranglers...

You're welcome. If everyone would just repost this every time the subject is brought up I bet things would change.

I just drove my Jeep home 15 miles in the pouring rain with no roof or doors, I'm soaked to the bone and freezing my ass off... But I wouldn't have rather done it in any other vehicle. And if some one were to ask me if i would do it again... I wouldn't hesitate to answer yes. I had a huge smile all the way home. I love the Jeep life

Reading this makes me glad I got the heater option LOL. Reminds me of a few motorcycle rides I have had. Only the dedicated do this!

I've gotten poured on many times in my jeep and i can't help but love it. I get worried that it's going to get wrecked, but I just love it! It's so refreshing and liberating. Although, I was not thrilled when I went to leave for work one morning and my jeep was completely flooded out. 3 inches standing water and the console completely full with all the stuff floating in it. Cleanup and the after-effects were not fun, lol!

Also, I've been back in the Tampa Bay Area for almost two months now and I've noticed that for the most part, the jeepers down here do not wave. Maybe it's because there are so many jeeps that you'd constantly be waving or what. 4-doors are the worst offenders. I haven't gotten a wave from one yet. I still wave at all that I see, and sometimes I get one back. I feel like an idiot sometimes, especially if I have a passenger...but I can't help it. It's a jeep thing....

I'm in Massachusetts and the part that I'm in ( Westminster) is in the mountains I see a jeep at least 1 in every 5-10 cars.

I don't get waved at but my father does. People say they only wave to jeep with mods .. My dad has few ( light covers, bug deflector) not really Offroad mods. He's had his since 2005.... He gets waved at almost all of them. He also leaves the hardtop on all the time.

I've had mine 3 weeks I've added sideboards ( steps.. Lol whatever they are called), a Demi
Bra, light covers, custom made tire cover, hand grips inside vehicle.... ( grill insert, custon windoe vinyl that says " Offroad Princess"
and plasti dip for grill and wheels ordered ( i needed bright blue) lol). I drive topless every chance I get....

I don't get waved at. I can literally follow a few miles behind him and see the same cars no wave.

I think here it is an anti girl thing. I was really hurt at first... And cried just like a girl would ....Now I'm pissed. Next year ill have my girl tricked out and off roading to the point people are looking at her going woah!!!!! Ignore me then!

Have a great weekend! I'm off to the GREAT AMERICAN JEEP RALLY in CT.

If ANYONE is going let me know. Ill wave hi!

My fist jeep was a liberty, no waves so I didn't understand when I got my first wrangler why everyone was waving. My son who at the time was 16 enlightened me on it, he now has my first wrangler, he is a true Jeeper!!

So I was out last night on an unlit road and got high beam flashed by another wrangler. I guess that's the night time version of a wave.

I always wave, but I live in a small town, so we all wave except the lady in the red four door. Got a wave from a yuppie looking guy in a commander the other day too. I was so surprised I almost forgot to wave back.

Been a keeper for a month, been riding bikes for ever and my wife thinks the only reason I got a jeep is to wave at people when I'm not riding my bike. Guess I just like to wave at good people.
Bikers and jeepers.... A friendly breed of our own..

Glad at least one dealer or salesperson is spreading the wave word!
