Engine management

I want to increase power and fuel economy. Does anyone have experience with engine management computers (superchip, powercomander, ect). Which one do you use? Is the power increase noticeable without additional mods (intake, exhaust)? Have you seen any improvement in MPGs?

Thanks

If you have a manual, it will do next to nothing for you. If you have an auto, it will change your shift points, so you stay more in the powerband. You could probably get it custom tuned at a shop for cheaper.

I use the Superchips Flashpaq on my '10, JKUR, automatic transmission. I love it. It changes the shift points and torque management so the transmission "feels" a whole lot better than stock. I also think they change the gas pedal sensitivity (it's a "fly-by-wire system), and I think that also helps a lot. I'm not sure if actual torque and HP has changed, but the Jeep sure "feels" a whole lot better. I can't say that I've seen any change in gas mileage at all. I've read some opinions that manual tranny users don't find it improves things quite as much; but others on this board with manuals still like their Superchips.

BTW, I use the 91 octane performance tune. Here's a review I read before I bought: Jeep Wrangler JK Tuner Shootout - Jp Magazine

I see you have an 2006 4.0L TJ. Chips/tuners are pretty much useless on the 4.0L.

If you want to improve fuel economy then you need to change your driving habits or find alternate means of transportation.

If you want to improve power, then you're looking at a cam & head work, stroker kit, turbo or supercharger. Those may actually worsen fuel economy...unless you can drive like a grandma and keep your foot out of the skinny pedal.

If you have larger than stock tires and want to regain the "power" you've lost, then you need to regear both front and rear axles, and recalibrate the speedometer.

why would the tuner be useless on this motor? I have auto trans so i assumed it would change the shift points depending on what mode your in eco or power
