Engine Rebuild?

Hey I'm just breaking into the world of jeeps and am looking to get my first one. I found one that is a 2001 Wrangler Sport, however the engine needs to be rebuilt. I was just wondering if anyone had an approximation on what this would cost? Thanks.

depends on what you want done; who you find to do it; and how good of a job they do (aka you pay for what you get)

I've seen rebuilt 4.0's for $1500 and brand new crate engines for $2000 ish, that are even reverse engineered and are saposed to be better than what you had. I've looked for sh*ts and giggles cause mine is an 01 with higher miles, my body and interior are in awesome shape. what did you pay for it just curious??. book value for mine is around $6 - $7000, if you were to pick up for 3-4 grand and put 2 onto it. U would b in awesome shape IMO.

A proper rebuild will run you $3-4k. Pay less, get less.

I agree, how much are they asking for it too? And is the rest of the jeep in good condition cause other wise id keep looking unless its dirty cheap, and then id personally bite the bullet and get a crate. It'll last longer and it'll be better alround, and should come with a warrenty .

(Sorry for any typos I'm not a good speller by any means and my driods not fixing any words for some reason)

They were asking 3000. Also I just found out that it needs a new radiator, work on the radio and speakers, and the heat/ac only work on the first two settings. On top of that it has a little rust on the door handles, light brackets, and underbody. It seems like this is just a money pit but thanks for the help.

That is a HUGE money pit. personally i'd only touch it for about $6-800
But for 3K! Id stay away from that....
