First Car Wrangler: Three Choices -Sport 01, Sahara 00 (yellow) (green), Sport 03 (si

I am currently 15 and have read alot of threads on this forum just for fun, and dont have a Wrangler YET so I apologize... Please help me so I can finally post a picture of my baby...

As of right now, I have only driven the Sahara and the 2001 sport.

The 2001 Sport is VERY rickety and does not seem to stop well or even go well without lurching. I also am not to fond of the Yellow as I do go to an all boys school and yellow just is not very flattering. 6 Cyl 4.0 Lit, Black Soft top, 63,000 MILES 10,000$

The Sahara 2000- Very very smooth compared to the 2001, also switches through gears easily and breaks more finely. The green also looks pretty amazing with the tan soft top as well as the interior being very comfortable. 4.0 lit 6 cyl 70,000 MILES, $9,995

Now I HAVE NOT DRIVEN this one, but it is in my city and the only car I am willing to buy from an owner. My favorite things about it without driving it are the year of the car 2003 and the color (silver= my favorite). 6 Cyl. 4.0 L 75,000 MILES, $9495

Basically, because the miles are all around 10,000 miles in difference and about $500 in price, I am asking is a 2003 significantly better than an 01 or an 00? What do you think I should do?

Well i would go test drive the 03 before making any decision. It also sounds like you like the 2000 Sahara better then the 01 Sport, Not only because of the color but because of the way it handles when you drive it. I myself have an 03, I bought it with 72,000 miles on it and i LOVE this jeep. My favorite vehicle i have ever owned.

Also are these automatics or manual transmissions? What rear ends do these have? The 03 should have a better value then the other 2 because of the year, but the transmission, rearend, and a/c, stuff like that will have a factor on what the price will be. Also What Jeep do you like better? Your the one whos gona be owning it and go with what you want ... not what someone else tells you.

OHHH one more thing before someone jumps on you. Do not call a wrangler a car, It is a jeep, wrangler, or your toy. Just don't call it a car. LOL Somepeople are kinda sensitive on that subject.

and doooo post pics when you get it. We love pics.

Ha thanks for the advice

These are all automatic and the 2003 is being sold by an owner which accounts for the lower price. What do you mean by rear end :X

If the rear end has a D35 or a D44, you can tell by looking at the plug for filling. If it has a rubber plug its a D35, If it has a metal plug that you use a breaker bar to open it up its a D44. The D44 is a stronger rear end. Many people claim the D35 will break if you put tires on that are bigger then 33 inches. I have a D35 and use my jeep as my daily driver. I don't do any hard wheeling ... most of the stuff i go through is pretty easy stuff. But the D44 would bring up the value a little more too. Most hard core off roaders prefer the D44.

a d44 would be nice to get.. but then again.. it also depends on your plans for it.. if you plan on running 35s on day.. then yah get it.. i ran a d35 for years (only had 31s because i was in hs) but road the crap outta my jeep and had no problems.. ran 33s about 6 months and had no problems..

saharas are nicer imo.. i like the side molding on em

and NEVER NEVER NEVER call a jeep a car again...

fyi.. the forest green saharas were my fav color.. was soo pissed when my parents brought my jeep home back in 99.. hated the gold color.. about 4-5 months later.. i began to love my color.. now i love the fact that its hard to find a jeep like mine.. and if i do see one.. they tend to be sports with black fenders..

although i do have a twin on here.. and i think we got a younger brother runnin around somewhere

hey distorted

Depending on where you live there are a few TJ Rubicons floating out there at a reasonable price as well.. If you live anywhere near the ones I've come across online I'd go take a look

I think I am about to buy the 2000 Sahara, but I am just concerned about the age... my daily commute to school is 54 miles. Will a car 10 years old with 70000 miles be able to take that for 8 more years?

damn.. 27 miles to school one way?

15 years old.. 8 years of school? or are you adding in college?

treat your jeep right (well maintained) and your baby will last that.. mines been running a decade strong now.. though i dont drive her as often (in fact havent in all of 2010) but when my wife was pregnant she had my car and i drove my jeep 80 miles round trip to work every day.. with 33s on it.. and mind you ive beat her to crap offroad

Proper maintenance and the body will fall off before that engine dies.. At 70k its not even broken in yet.. Damn 4.0's won't die unless you do something stupid to it

NEVER call a Wrangler a "car". You're new, so I'll let it go THIS TIME.

Welcome and good luck on your search.

The TJs will run forever with hardly any problems IF it's taken care of and serviced properly.

And....Scottie and Sinister are correct. A Wrangler is NOT a "car". Really! It's not. After you've driven one a while, you'll understand what we mean.

Can you afford 3-4 gallons of gas per day? Next question, do you WANT to spend the money on 3-4 gallons of gas per day? Be honest with yourself here...if you are, thats fine, but be prepared for it.

Age isn't really an issue...condition is what you'll want to pay attention to (even more so than miles so long as they are in the same neighborhood).

Good luck.
