Flexing Basics for Noobs?

Can someone explain the mechanics of flexing. What goes into being able to achieve a good flex? Can it happen stock? Rear and front flexing independently.......

Thanks ahead for any help.

The pictures/posts on here of peoples flexing are really good by the way.
