Free or cheap tricks for your Jeep

I wanted to suggest that we make a section for little things we can do to out jeeps for free.

If you have any put them up, I researched all of these and figured it would be helpful for others considering I am such a newb to the jeep world.

I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO TAKE THEM OFF BEFORE DOING THIS AND ALSO HAVE HEARD THAT HEAT GUNS WORK AS WELL. BE CAREFUL!

X2 on painting the fenders
I did it the old fashion way with spray paint, but both methods work

Visor swap, to keep from looking at those stickers all the time.

Mud flap delete

Step delete

Milk jug delete

Spare tire/and carrier delete

(can you tell I'm good at taking crap off? )

Window flapping stopper thingies..... I'll get a pic later.

And maybe today, I'm going to start trying my hand at making seat covers.... :-/

Well if you don't have zipper windows, you won't need it, but they are elastic cords that fit around the half door frames with alligator clips on it to secure your soft window when it's open so it stays open and doesn't blow out the door on the highway.

And yeah, I wish I was as good at putting stuff on, as taking stuff off, but hey, that's just the way it is
My husband doesn't really like it much when I start taking stuff off the rides, so I usually wait till he's not looking

What's the point of taking the spare off except stranding yourself if you get a flat?

Easy, my spare was 30x9.5. My new tires are 33's. Spare wasn't doing me much good, it's heavy, and I'm too cheap to buy 5 tires and a new spare carrier. Road hazard and towing make it all ok with me anyway.

Yo IG, there's no reason to buy a new tire carrier, your stock carrier and 30" tire are fine, in case you get a flat

You can always get a tire cover, since the spare won't match the tires on the jeep

If you get a flat in the back (usual), you just have to swap a front tire back there to keep the diff. happy and put the spare on the front--never can tell

It may be illegal to run without a spare, wherever you live--checkitout

My Lotus didn't come with a spare......

When I bought my jeep it had 31'' tires and a 30'' spare. Strangely I had a sidewall open up on me in a parking lot. and I had to slap the (flat) spare on the front, and air it up with the compressor I had in the jeep. It got me 20 miles to the tire shop so I could buy 5 31'' BFG's.

Thanks Jimbo! I have a cover... I (knock wood) have never had a flat in (OMG... 32 years) so, hopefully I can keep up my track record. If not, like I said, I have towing and road hazard on my tires so..... Besides, I'm not sure I can even pick up one of my 33's... I'm a little bitty skinny bit**......

I had a cover.....took that off...then one night, just went out and took the whole thing off...mine had an aftermarket lug lock thing that i didnt have the wrench for, so i couldnt use it anyway... I figure, if i get a flat, ill just sit there and relax untill someone comes and gets me lol... or walk... thats what cell phones are for. oh yea, and I can see out my back window better and easier for people to jump in and out of the back when the tops off.

I take my top and doors off in the spring and they stay off for six months. I just use a Bestop Trail Cover to cover it when it rains. I know its been mentioned on the forum here before but when I take the door off I lose the use of the mirrors so I mount motorcycle mirrors in the door hinges. I just bought some new ones like below.

Ok, back to topic.....
I'm in the process of making seat covers for her. I'll post up pics when I finish one. So far the one I have looks great! And I'm seriously going to support my friends at www.fullcirclefabrications by buying a light bar/bumper hoop from them when the $ finds it's way to my pocket.

Sorry OP, these aren't free, but they aren't very expensive either....

Where can you get mirrors like that for the best price? I'm in the market for some...but all I'm finding are $50+ per mirror.

Ok, here's one of my seat covers I've been working on.... My husband thinks they're too girly, but it's the only outdoor fabric that had the right colors for my Jeep... And, I wanted them to look "custom"

Intake mod, free if you don't do the second part, but if you do it cost me about 8 bucks to do, because I had to buy a whole roll of fiberglass mesh..

My driver side sun visor never has stayed locked in and would sometimes start to rattle on rough roads. Passenger side fits well and doesn't pop out. Tried a piece of paper around the peg but that got lost often. Today just happened to look at a straw in my drink while coming to work and wouldn't you know it, it fits perfectly. Now I don't have to worry about losing another piece of paper towel. I just love finding simple and free fixes to small problems like this.
