from TJ to JK

Ok, I know this may start a fuss but not looking for jeep bashing here, just some real advise. I have and love a 06 TJ Rubicon been great! Second TJ and having the Rubi and seeing how much more i can run with the lockers n such has made me a big fan. I have a son that refuses to stop growing and he can no longer manage fitting in the back, thought about getting rid of the wife so he could sit up front but decided the jeep is what must change. Drove the JK and JKU today and to my surprise I loved the new 3.6 in both manual and auto it just plain made me smile and the addition of the comforts wasn't the instant turn off I have convinced myself it would be. I could have power windows and mirrors and a jeep?! WTF! anyway never thought Id let the rubi go but times dictate I must. So buying a 13 JKR or JKUR would be perfect if I could afford it but I cant. So looking for help figuring out what model would do. Honestly if I could get a sport with lockers and 44's Id be more than good but we all know that isnt happening. Could any that have been in this situation lend your thoughts? Oh and My son had room in new JK so 4 door is not mandatory and I was a bit more impressed with the motor in the lighter vehicle but that storage would rock! Prob want to go with 35s eventually and mild lift that is where my concerns for the d30 comes in, anyway help!

Guess to be more to the point 07-10 rubi with lousy motor or 12-13 sport without all wonderful rubi goodies are all I can afford. Help me decide!

Been in your shoes. I had a 06 Rubi LJ 4'' lift & 33's , loved it . Like you my son kept growing.
With him and his friends & gear it was getting cramped in there. Well I ended up getting a 2011 JKUR back in Oct 2010. I always thought it was going to be to big, I don't need all that room. Well I saw wrong. It's not that big and the extra space is great.
You can still find a Sport and have a locker installed in the rear, put c- gussets on the 30 and call it good.

Tough call...
While the 3.8 lacks power, it is really the crappy 42RLE slush box that makes it a dog. An 07-11 Rubi will have 4.10's.
.

The 3.6 is nice, and the new WA580 auto tranny is eons better than the 42RLE...but you are talking more cash. A Sport S is a nice vehicle.

Don't forget that there was an interior update in 2011 (and another small one in 2013).

Yea the interior update was what made me like the Jk interior. It's plush and car like compared to my Tj which is good and bad but I really like the idea of having a comfortable jeep with nice features and still the off road ability it has. My only complaint about the jkr I'm looking at now is its a manual. Just got lazy with my current auto and the auto makes rocks much easier. It's a 13 with every option including navigation and only 4232 miles on it and right now I'm looking at $29234 otd. Seems like a great deal but gotta see how payments come out. Also, the manual with the new 3.6 felt like a jeep rocket! That thing flies! Gonna make a very fun ride if it all works out. If not i think the sport jku will do just fine with a few mods.

Well, I finally did it, I got the JK 2012 JKR everything but leather and auto, Loving it so far the mileage and ride on road are sooooo nice! Took it light wheeling the second day i had it and seems to be just as capable there too. But god forbid anything break cause that thing is complicated!!! LOL. Ended up getting it for slightly less than a sport model new with only 4600 miles on it couldnt pass up free RUBICON package! I do miss the TJ but each day it is getting easier. Only complaint is much less love with the waves in a stocker, oh well soon enuf it will sit a bit better!

Go to your "User CP" and look down most of the way on the left hand side under "Miscellaneous" there should be a link for "Attachments." Click that and delete a bunch of your older ones...that should free up some space for you. Or you could become a Supporting Member and get a lot more space. Oh, and congrats on the new Jeep! My dad's got a 2012, and that thing is great.
