Garage Door Remote Mod

I would like to use the extra switch in my dash as a hidden garage door remote. I have found a website (Wiring) that basically tells me how to do it all but I had a few questions and thought everyone here may be able to help me.

1. Where would I need to pull the power from to power the switch?
2. How much can I safely apply and not burn out the remote?

Any help would be appreciated!

Don’t pull the power from the vehicle, just velcro the remote in place under the dash and run the switch to where you want it. The battery should last for several years without the need to change it and the velcro will make the battery change simple. This is the way my father used to do it in every car he had, even before they had velcro. Worked great for him.

In My Lotus I wired the power in with a resistor, as to not blow out the remote.

Mine is inside the fenderwell and is triggered by the high beam flash.

You need to use a remote that uses a 9V battery ( I got a generic one from Lowes)in order to duplicate the way I did it. Mine worked at my old house for over a year. I still haven't put my opener on the door for the Lotus, so I haven't used it in 3 months.
