gm late model 5.3 in YJ??!!

Well I really want to do this now, now that I thought of it. Does anyone have any info on this swap? Links would be great for part sources. I am pretty positive I am going to purchase a 1991 yj next week it has a 5 speed in it. I do not know much about jeeps at all but I am fimilar with GM late model engines and I know that these 5.3 can run pretty well and better with A mild cam I'll throw in it.
I know there are both adapters out there to adapt the GM engine to the jeep transmission and also adapters to adapt gm transmissions to the jeep transfercase. I am not sure what would be the best solution. I can get a th350 trans pretty cheap that would bolt right up to the engine than I would have to get the adpater for the transfer-case.

Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks!!

thats a nice engine, it would be a cool swap. that engine is very computerized, you'd need the complete harness and computer out of the truck, and i would use the trans and wiring out of the truck to. probably 4l60e or 4l80e trans, and those are gonna hold up. i think that engine goes for around 1200 in a bone yard by itself. you'll need all the accessories also along with wire harnesses and computers. not a cheap swap.

Whats the powerband look like on that engine ? Is it a low end grunt motor like the straight sixes are or do you need to get up to the 3500+ rpm range before it really turns on ?

You should put on a Kenne Bell twin screw and get 450 ft lbs at 2000rpm
That would be fun!!

Sorry forgot to answer questions

Call up Advanced Adapters .. There website kind of sucks but they have everything for swaps.

Especially for a swap that has been done a lot times like this one.

I have been seeing the 5.3 engines on ebay including harness and computer go for around 500-600. I can get th350 dirt cheap and then I would have to program the trans out of the computer I think?
