Hello, new here and am considering buying a Jeep...

I owned a Wrangler eons ago-- 1988 (I think) and it had half-doors. It was a great fun vehicle (pre-kids) but I had alot of problems with the Pugeot transmission. I sure wish there were forums like this back then!!! :thumb:

I've been viewing and reading here and see there aren't many references or pics of new models w/ half doors--is there a reason??

Is it possible to still get half-doors on a new model? All of the Jeeps at my local dealer are sold w/ full doors and I really don't want that. I also want a manual transmission and no A/C--is that possible?

Living here in South Florida, I don't see any need for full doors...

Welcome to the forum.

They're still available, just not as popular as full doors. A lot of dealers don't keep them in stock.

The Rubicon model (the "top of the line" Wrangler) can't be had with them because it necessarily comes with power windows/locks, which obviously don't work on half doors.

But otherwise, yes, you can get them with half doors straight from the factory. You can also order half doors from aftermarket companies if you wish. For example, look at these. That way you can have both sets of doors.

I also want a manual transmission and no A/C--is that possible?
Yes. You can review the models and options available here.

I miss my half doors. Like MTH ^ said, you can get 'em on the JKs but you've gotta ask. If you go to the Jeep web site and do the build your own, you can delete the power windows and other silly nonsense then print that out to take to the dealer. Then you can wait forever to get the Jeep you want. Or, you can just go with after market stuff.

It is frustrating. A check on cars dot com showed approx. 250 new and used jeeps for sale within 150 miles and of those TWO had the half doors-- a 2006 and a 2007.
I'd like to find a 2009-up.

Building one seems to be just about my only option...

I wish I had been looking this time last year, the "islander" is the one I really wanted!!!

Why not buy a used 2009 Sport in the color you want and "build" it into an "Islander"?

I know you haven't been into Jeeps in a while, but I promise you the aftermarket is massive. There's almost nothing that can't be done, and for mostly reasonable prices--especially the cosmetic stuff. Since you'll be saving money on the original purchase (i.e., by buying used and by being flexible on everything but color), you should be able to do it pretty affordably.

Allow me to demonstrate. Let's see . . .

You want half doors. Okay, we covered that yesterday.

An Islander has the Rubicon 17" wheels. That's a commonly optioned choice for Sports, so you'll probably be able to do that on your original find. If not, folks are always pulling off their stock Rubi wheels to get other ones, so just search "jeep rubicon wheels" on Craigslist or eBay and you'll find plenty.

An Islander had the "performance suspension." That's easy. The size of the aftermarket suspension options for Wranglers is beyond ridiculous.

An Islander had cool blue colored seats. Okay, take a look at these, among others.

An Islander had neat decals. Well, here you go. Want to change it? Talk to the owner of the site and he'll customize for you however you want.

Don't forget the cool tire cover that lots of folks with Islanders pick up. You can get one here: (Jeep Parts - The Official Jeep Parts eStore offered by Chrysler). Select "2010" then "Wrangler 2-door" or "Wrangler 4-door," and then search within the selection for "Islander." It's the only item that comes up.

Am I missing anything? :thumb:

You can order the Wrangler you want...as you want it. I would guess that delv time from order to dealer lot it probably 4-6 wks. Mine was 3 1/2 weeks delivery time, but my local dealer is a big dealer w/ volume, and we are only 50ish miles from the Toledo plant. If you want it spec'd your way that is your best chance to get your color, door, roof options the exact way you want it. I couldnt find one on a dealer lot w/in 300miles with the configuration i wanted. So i ordered and even got an oddball engine block heater i wanted that almost no dealers spec for stock, at least around here(maybe in Alaska, and the Great White North), which i did have on my '94 and '97 Grand Cherokee and used in Northern Michigan and when i was without a garage for a while during the time i was building my house. I had to park out side and would plug the car in in conjunction w/ a lamp/vacation timer to go on a 3-4 hrs before i left for work on very cold days(which is a non issue for Florida).

Any way as you can see my point is order your car your way, its not a big deal.

oh yes it was especially because of what i ws driving during the wait, i had already sold my Trailblazer SS. I was driving a company work pickup that has been very unloved, my 9 1/2 yr old daughter would not ride in and became know as the "stinky pickup". IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!! To know that no one had taken it out for test drive, ect and that i was the first to put miles on the car. And that i got the combination of options and color just as i wanted.
