I know you can get a real nice winch from harbor freight for like 50.00 and it works well. I attempted it then realized my garage is too low so epic fail for me!

Do a search for this, lots of people use Racor or Harken, but in the threads, various people have posted their own versions as well.

Subscribed. Im in the same boat. My GF broke her elbows a few years ago and cant lift more than 20#. Best friend has a seperated shoulder. Family isnt readily available enough. I really dont like many people, so i dont have many friends lol. I was thinking about drilling and installing some pulleys (one in the ceiling joist, and one in the concrete floor a few feet back) and using a come-along and some synthetic line to get it done by myself.

Check out the Harken Hoist. Many are using it, I'm planning on ordering it shortly. It is designed to be used by one person. Lange offers one with a manual and a winch option as well but is pretty expensive.

I went the cheap route by using 2 ratchet straps and 4 eyebolts. The straps run front to rear vs side to side. I don't have issues with the top bowing and have had my hardtop supported by this method for 3-4 months without issue.

with all the vids and such of ones that use a winch or handcrank mounted on a garage wall, i'm surprised i haven't seen anyone use the winch on their front bumper to do the hoisting yet. hoist, lock it up into place, pull away.

my garage ceiling isn't that tall, i'm planning to diy some kind of stand i can lift the top off from crouched inside the jeep, and lift it over onto this stand thingie. i've seen a few vids of people removing/installing a hardtop this way but they use like 2 chairs or something that's lower than the jeep and looks difficult and hard on my old back. i plan to lift the top up enough to clear the jeep and then onto this rack, so what i'm gonna build will be higher than the jeep not lower.

open to any/all suggestions!

I've been using 4 straps but I see now that there's a better way.

Now that I think about it, I can get the top higher with straps than I can with two. I run out of room on the spool before I run out of overhead. So with 4 straps, when you shorten one by 1", the top goes up 1". With two straps, when you shorten by 1", the top goes up 1/2".

What are the hooks attached to,,, anything?

I like that idea, but I was worried that the point of the hook would either slip off or damage the bottom of the roof.
