Help - Free spool froze up on Warn 9.5 cti

I have searched threads on a couple of forums and did a search online and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm hoping someone here can help or point me in the right direction.

I have a Warn 9.5cti purchased new in late August of 2012 that won't go into free spool. The lever is froze up on it so I can't turn it to the free spool mode. The winch still works, I just have to use power to unroll the cable instead of free spooling. I will be taking delivery soon of my new JKURX and want to get the winch in ASAP, but want it working properly first.

FYI the winch was on my TJ. It was only used a handful of times and I kept it covered. Not sure if any of this matters, but I thought I would include that info.

What should I do? I have heard of people taking them apart to clean and grease, but I would at least like to see a video of that process or a write up of the steps to take. I emailed Warn tonight to see what they say. Can anyone help?

Yeah I would wait to see what warn says, they're known for their customer service so I'd very they take care of you.
I believe you are generating heat when powering out so probably want to get that fixed before using it too much.

This link takes me to a video that shows Creating a fixed eye in your Amsteel Blue Winch Line.

I had the same thing happen to my vr8000 winch.i have a thread on it.anyway I removed the gears where the free spool lever is housed and it was all gummed up.The grease got wet and turned to muck.Warn sent me new gaskets.cleaned it up and it works fine now.

How did you know what parts to have them send you? I have emailed a couple times with Warn and that is what I was told that I could tear it apart and they would send me the parts but I don't know how I would know what parts to have them send me.

Had a similar thing happen to my 9.5ti except mine was worse, Only thing that worked was the motor.Turned out the seals failed and the inside rusted to hell, like yours the lever got stuck, but mine didn't function at all.Completely rebuilt and it works pretty good, it's still pretty tough to free spool.

I'm not sure if the CTI's are prone to the same seal failure as the TI's, but I would just pull the winch apart and see if it rusted.

Did you rebuild it or did you send it to Warn? They say if I pay to ship it there they will fix it and pay to ship it back under warranty or I can fix it and they will send me the parts under warranty.

All I needed was the 2 gaskets that seal the gear assy up.
