Help with some basic questions

Hi folks. I'm new to the forum. Back in the early 70's (yup, I'm old) I had a buddy with a '71 or so 304 V8 CJ5. Did a lot of dune climbing along the great lakes shore with his 4WD club, and hill climbing in the north Michigan woods. Lots of fond memories. Almost bought a new CJ back then but backed out. Been wanting one ever since.
So I'm looking around at Wranglers now, and have a few questions that I hope you folks would me your opinions on. I don't plan on doing any wild off road stuff. More like just taking the top off on a nice day and looking for a fire lane to explore. So here goes:

Should I stay away from the V6, lean toward the L6? Don't want a 4.

Is it worth it to get both tops? Steel doors?

Any common problems to look out for?

Guess that's it. Thanks, Pete.

Welcome to the forum, the I6 has a far better track record for reliability then the 3.6/3.8. The 4.2I6 is great too but from experience the carter carbs don't like cold weather. Whereabouts do you live?

I'm in Northern Indiana. I'm thinking TJ. Don't like those square headlights.

If you can, test drive a TJ and then a 3.6L 2012+ JK. The 3.6L has far more hp than previous versions and the bugs have been worked out of the 2013+ models. I've read from owners of the older Jeeps who bought a newer JK say the older ones cannot get out of their own way.
