Unhappy Help With Water Question

Im sorry, i am new at this and thought this was the best place to post.

The other day i was having a little fun and went through a puddle, not deep, nothing big and fancy, just saw it and ran through. Water splashed up on the windshield like it has before, only this time i had the heater on and water came through the air system into the floor board. It smelt a little cause im guess with the heat being on it was burning off the water.

My question is, is this normal for it to come in on the vent on the hood? i was told you can close it so no water gets in, not even rain. but i was also told that maybe it has a drain that is clogged. Im not too sure what to do or look for, any help?

Thanks!

I can tell you rain will sometimes come in a open vent
just try to dry rug it could mold or
trap water to start rust

is there anyway to close that vent on the hood? i could see if there was a drain and maybe the puddle i hit just over flowed into the floorboard... but i cleaned out the inside of the jeep, it wasnt a lot... i just didnt want water making the inside of the air system rusted. i know that rain has never came in, i just watch videos on youtube of people going under water with a snorkle and stuff, clearly the water is over the hood lol. just curious if i am missing something or if i need to clean out a hose that lets the water drain out?

Check the hose its on the fire wall pass side about a foot in
4 inchs down looks like a soft garden hose.

I would never take a jeep in that high of water(youtube)
too much can go wrong I mean there are ways to water proof
the trans/transfer but if the water stops your fan
or engine dies you are out BIG BUCKS
