So my 05 TJ two saturdays ago at the superlift offroad park broke two teeth off two spider gears in the dana 44! So everything else is fine! Ring and pinion are good! Bearings still good! So im swappin the stock carrier with a Grizzly/Yukon locker using the same ring and pinion and same bearings!
I pulled the stock carrier out left the pinion in! So my question is when i get ready to put my Yukon locker in do i have to mess with backlash and stuff? Or should it go back in the way it came out? I thought backlash and everything else would be good since the pinion was left alone??
Thankx in advance for any insight!
I had talked to alot of people and they all made a big deal about using a backlash tool! But i went to a friends 4x4 shop and talked with a friend that had helped me rebuild my 10 bolt in my truck amd he said that i can just drop it back in putting the caps.....shims....and bolts back in the way they came out! And to just feel it out! Felt fine after it was torqued to specs! Took gear markin paint and made sure the ring and pinion were still makin the same pattern and it all looked good!
