No other codes? Always start with the basic tune up parts, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, compression test. Also check for vacuum leaks.

Have done everything besides a compression test..it was throwing another code saying the timing chain maybe stretched but that code seem to disappear for some odd reason

That would coincide with that CPS check engine light. How hard do you beat on the engine? Jumping timing is rare. Should be getting a misfire code too though....

And you said you replace or checked the distributor gear? What year is the Jeep?

Not hard on the engine at all. it's a 98..I bought it from a college kid and am slowly replacing his mistakes and non maintenance..This is the last problem I can see.. I'm beating my head against the wall

Let me know what you find out. I have same issue. I did mitigate a bad O2, that would intermittently cause my jeep to stall/bog down...

However I'm havering the same issue and was thinking fuel pump or bad injectors. I was going to do the CPS and/or TPS.

Ended up just being the crankshaft positioning sensors wire had burned in half due to not being correctly secured behind the block
