Well, to start with, I think you have the wrong title. The generic name for the 1/4-ton chassis 4x4 that has been continuously made since 1941 is "Jeep Universal" the major variants of this are and were:

1941 to 1970's - M1, M38, etc. military Jeeps.
1947 to 1986 - Civilian Jeep series (CJs)
1984 to 1995 - YJ Wrangler
1997 to 2006 - TJ Wrangler
2007 to Present - JK Wrangler

A good source is the "Jeep Owner's Bible" by Moses Ludel, make sure you read the most current edition.

All Jeep Universals 1941 - 2006 were manufactured in the same Willys factory in Detroit except for a brief period 1942-1945 when both Willys and Ford manufactured the Willys design, which actually was developed by a third vehicle manufacturer namem Bantam, which was acquired by Willys before the war ended.

There's a lot there, your only problem is gonna be selecting what you want to talk about.

Jeep History

Google is your friend there is enough out there to write a short paper on the history and more than 3 sources for the bibliography.
