Horn Honk

I just bought, (as I'm sure you've seen by now), a Wrangler yesterday, and I don't know if it's a "CJ" a GR a BW a SL.....I see all these catagories in here, and don't know where my Wrangler falls.

Anyway, I tried to follow the instructions in the Owners Manual for shutting off the horn when I hit the lock button on my remote, and it still HONKS.

It said I had to push and hold the "Lock" symbol for 4 - 10 seconds, and then during that hold down, after 4 seconds, I'm supposed to push the Panic button on my remote, and then release them both, to de-activate the horn honk.

Didn't work,....now what????

Try it again?

The models are pretty simple, going backwards from yours, which is a JK, the previous model was the TJ, probably the most common on here (?), although I could be wrong on that, prior to the TJ was the YJ, easiest way to identify a YJ is the square headlights, they also had leaf springs at all 4 corners, unlike the later models which are now all 4 coil springs. Anything prior to a YJ is a CJ, which were never really named Wranglers, but all are clearly related. You might find some CJ owners offended if you refer to a CJ as a Wrangler, but probably just in fun!

So "mine" is a "JK" if I'm reading you right, yes? What's the "JK" stand for?

JK is just the internal model designation Chrysler uses internally for this partilar model. Other examples are Dodge trucks are DT, a Durango used to be DN, at least the original was, probably something different now since it's a new model. The alpha-numeric designations can tell you a lot about a particular vehicle, TJ = the base model, followed by 4 numbers which tell you some of the different options, for example a base 4 cylinder might be 1000, a Sport 2000,, and a Sahara 3000. Some options are only available on certain models, like a four cyl can't be ordered in a TJ2000 or TJ3000, etc.. It's more complicated than that, but that is where the current nickname nomenclature came from.

Of course, the CJ just stood for Civilian Jeep, that was the actual name, which might have something to do with why "we" started to id our Jeeps using these designators when the 2nd version of the "Wrangler" came along. Prior to the TJ, there wasn't likely to be much confusion between a Wrangler and a CJ, but once there were two very different vehicles wearing the same name...

Hope that helps some... I'll put my soapbox away now...
