SO, how cold will you let it go before you put the top up or on? I'm curious, this morning it was 43° when I left. I rode my bike down into the mid 20's so cold doesn't bother me too much for my short ride to work, especially if it's supposed to be nice in the afternoon.
My biggest concern is according to the owners manual, I think it said you should not zip the windows in if it's below 46°. I'm guessing to avoid damagin the windows. I know that even cooler days, the top itself is a little harder to put up.
I once drove from Tampa to Chattanooga in the middle of January, it was snowing the last 3.5-4 hours, topless but not doorless. Needless to say that heater was running wide open. Id say it was in the teens for most of the trip.
Got the top off right now and it's a cool, crisp 47 degrees right now. I just bundle up since in my neck of the woods it's rarely dry for a week at a time like it is right now.
My teenage daughter and I have a system (to keep her from complaining too much about the top being down and the doors being off) If it is below 65 degrees we put the doors on, below 55 we put the top up, below 45 the rear windows go in. (But that counts on us not making any clothing adjustments for the weather.)
I've driven it in the 20's to get the soft top installed. Other than that, it goes up around the mid 40's. I live in the South for a reason, I HATE BEING COLD!!
we were up on the cape cod a few weeks back and my wife froze when it got to the 40's. had to put on a jacket. at 39 deg. I put the top up. it was getting dark, and i knew that i would be hearing stuff from the better half. she's the one with common sense most of the time.
I live in Florida, I hate the cold! But, I don't mind Florida cold. Pennsylvania cold is a WHOLE other kind of cold. 35-40 degree cold in FL is nice, but 10-20 degree cold in PA is FREEZING!
I haven't been in any real cold weather in the Jeep yet, so I will have to wait and see
South Louisiana is a WET-cold so, if it drops below 50 it really feels like 30 !! Don't want any personal body parts rolling around on the floor cause they froze off !!
i had a convertible once. when it was turning cold i would put it up at 55ish. i had had my fill of top down all summer so it was ok. then in the spring 40 i was dying to have it down. never had a winter with the jeep yet but it will probably be similar conditions. its up now with it being 50 when i get up.
Weather here in south Louisiana is unpredictable and changes faster than I can type this post. Last week me and the wife went eat with some friends, top down and doorless seemed like a great idea when we left the house (sunny and 75). But when we left the restaurant it was dark and high 50's which made the ride home a little uncomfortable. We were wearing shorts BTW.
I've gone out scraped the windshield and drove the 20 minutes to work topless and doorless. It was probably about 28-30 degrees outside. It was not a pleasant ride.
Below 40 degrees and the doors go on. It already drops below freezing at night, but I do not mind the cold in the morning on my way to work. The heater does its job great. It still hits the 70s during the day so there is no way the top is going up unless it is raining.
