Prolly did take on water. Just not very quickly. It's not like its just gonna come gushing in like you have the doors off.
This is a great video to demonstrate that even if your engine can still breath, water displacement results in bouyancy...which decreases traction...which decreases control.

And thats what ends up killing people who get stupid and try to cross low water crossings in floods....no matter what vehicle they are in.

Standing water...have a ball. Moving water...think HARD about it. Rushing water NEVER!
