I was in the dealer today and am preparing to purchase a new 2016 wrangler unlimited rubicon.
I told him I had registered for TL and he knew all about the 1% under invoice deal - said it made things very simple.
Window sticker says $44810 (this is the MSRP, right ?)
He says 1% under invoice is 41,926.
But how do I really know that ? Will I, at some point, actually see the invoice price and it will be clear that that is really the invoice price ? Or do I have to take their word for it ?
What I mean is, let's say I do indeed get the proper TL discount and I pay 1% under invoice for the car ... don't they have eight different ways they can tweak the other numbers to get that discount back ?
I am going to look at the financing and make sure they aren't changing numbers there ... and I guess the destination charges, etc., should match any other vehicle that they sell.
What else do I need to look out for ? I'm skeptical that I can just walk in and get 1% under invoice, and all else being equal ...
Never pay full retail. This isn't a new model item (and I wouldn't for that either). Internet sales and employee price matching types (~treadlightly) are your friend. Save those thousands for the inevitable upgrades.
Ask to look at the invoice. You'll see a few numbers on it. The one you need to see is PP for preferred pricing. This is the 1% below invoice pricing for Chrysler affiliates such as Tread Lightly. That price, plus tax, tags, title fees, etc is your purchase price. If they try to charge you more, find another dealer.
