How fast in your Jeep

I just read a post in the general forum, about somebody driving their JK 100mph in a headwind "gracefully" (I call BS)....I've been to 85 in mine for a few miles and that was handful enough for me. Yuse guys? How fast have you been? Do you do it routinely? 65/70 seems comfortable to me.

I read that same post and thought the guy was crazy for going that fast. Maybe he had stock tires and maybe that's ok, but I have 315s and took it to 80 ONCE. I won't be doing that again. 65 is my max now when I hit the highways.

I only do the speed limit, my insurance is high enough and I have no need to get anywhere any faster. Life is too short.

I'll run 70 on the interstate, 75 if I need to pass someone, but that is plenty fast enough in a jeep.

I have no idea. The speedometer hasnt worked since I got it. Plus I haven't tried to fix it yet lol. I'm in no hurry when I drive the Jeep so who cares.

I drive mine 70 to 80 with street tires, I am not sure there is enough engine to push a TJ to 100 with a tail wind, little lone a head wind.

Did this post mention a small block Chevy under the hood?

Been 90+ not a lot. 80 on the interstate with my new 31s is no problem in the canyon passes around my parts. But I still get passed by the occasional Prius. With the stock 4.0

i love how everyone talks shit about the 42rle yet it can easily do 90+, not that i regularly hit that speed, but i have several times and im running 35's with 4.10 gears still and its as smooth as at 55 or any other speed. I'm sure it can get past 100

If something is "scary" with yours, something is wrong with it. 75 +/- is normal driving commute and it can be driven with a couple fingers on the wheel. I've had it much faster.

97 with a tail wind. I was following another car and didn't realize how fast I was going. That was when she was stock though. Nowadays I limit myself to 75 and keep in the slow lane.

I got up to 72 in my lj over the weekend coming back from a wheeling trip. It started shaking really bad. I am on 35s. Usually keep it around 65

I have never enjoyed driving slower more since I have had my jeep! Cheers to a reasonable rate on auto insurance!

I'm going to move this thread to the GB, but more as an FYI.....while I've never had my JK past 75mph (gas costs too much), I'm guessing the +2012's could easily do 100mph (especially in stock form).

The 3.6 is rated 285hp and 260 lb-ft of torque...and it is a high revving engine. In the Challenger, the same engine puts out over 300 HP.

I have a 4 door Sahara on stock wheels...so it would be a fairly stable platform at high speeds. I usually cruise at 70 mph with one finger on the steering wheel.

Well I don't know about the freeway but I do know that the speed limiter kick's in at 100 on the dirt.
Mine all stock the second week I had her. 1000 miles on the clock.

Yeah I don't go so fast on the freeway anymore. I keep it about 65. I am saving gas for wheeling. I just did the thing on the lake bed for kicks. The Old racer in me don't give up.

If I wanted fast I would have kept my Mustang lol. The road less travelled is not a freeway but a way of life. And it has a much lower speed limit. (Of course this emoticon has nothing to do with the reply but I just thought it was cool lol!)

Had my TJ at 90mph the other day. No shaking, stayed straight as an arrow when I took my hands off the wheel.

It was friggin awesome.

Had the '13 sport up to 85 passing on the freeway. I'm positive it would go over 100 easy enough, Not that I need to go that fast. Mine is completely stock.
