How hard is it do do your own gears?

Like it says I have some gear swaps coming up and I'm reapply wanting to do it my self for once. How hard is it to get the install right

I have a couple buddies that have set up gears on my Jeep. One is a master tech and does it everyday, the other has done it hundreds of times. I watched them both work on my Jeep. They make it look easy. But, you have to have special tools, and need to get it just right to avoid a catastrophic failure in there.
I still won't try it, but that's just me.
Got any buddies with the skills to walk you through it?

Friend of mine used to have a ZJ and did it himself. According to him he it just takes time, trial and erro. He also went through 2 Dana 35s and has a blown D30 (dunno if he did the gears on this one) and is trying to sell it now for 600. He blames it on the fact its a v8 with 31s on the d35. Interpret that as you wish.

It takes specialized tools...nothing too complicated, just stuff that adds up in cost quickly and never gets used again once you're done.

the actual install itself just takes time and lots of trial and error. the more experience, the better you get at it. but if you're only doing your own two axles....seems like a lot of time & effort wasted.

There are some things you may have to adjust. But I'd never refer to any of it as "trial and error". LOL

Probably explains his current situation.
