How long did it take you to sart adding stuff to your Jeep?

I have never really added any thing "after market" to any of my cars, they all stayed in stock condition, but I can't help my self with my new TJ. It's only been 6 days since I bought it and I'm going crazy trying not to spend all my money on accessories. Instead of checking out the other forums I normally frequent I'm either on this forum or browsing jeep sites for stuff for my jeep. I had to work a long day yesterday and as it got closer to bed time I realized that I didn't drive me jeep at all today, so I immediately took it for a quick ride
The only thing I bought so far was a kill switch on the first day and installed it on the second day, and today I'm ordering a hitch and a cargo carrier and maybe some seat covers, and a tire cover, and maybe a roof rack, or a 2" lift, or new speakers. Wow I love my JEEP

With the TJ I had a 3.5 in lift, and some other odds and ends within the firts 3 months.
The JK had a lift, skidplate, spidertrax spacers, and a superchips programmer sitting on my porch the day before I picked up the jeep, lol.

I picked up some rubber floor mats and those little round convex mirrors that stick to the rear views right after I left the car lot.

Sound upgrades: 4 months
suspension and wheels: 1 year and 4 months.

I started removing stuff the day I bought it.

Hood spring, carpet, brakaway under bumper thing, running boards, back seat, etc.

Just don't let enthusiasm make you rush into poor decisions.

When buying for your Jeep, think it all the way through before you purchase and install anything. All too often it happens that we do something (in my case the light bar) that we think is going to be uber cool and then realize later that it was uber stupid.

Plan your mods while looking a dozen steps in the future. "If I put the roof rack on, how is it going to affect the ability to take the top off? Will I like it up there? If I don't can I store it? WHERE will I store it? Just how much will I use it? and so on.

i had my lift kit on its way to my doorstep the day before I bought the Jeep lol. but like kate said, take your time, I knew exactly what i was getting into long before i ordered. take time to do some research and see that it is exactly what you want, and ask around on the forum and see if anyone else has purchased the same thing, it might have some downfalls that you won't know about until you get it.

Yep, ditto Kate and McGrid... take your time to determine what you need. I started removing stuff almost immediately, mudflaps, steps, milk jugs, did the visor swap, then I waited about 9 months before lifting, adding tires, wheels, bezels, markers, stickers, etc.

Oh hey! I just finally did that the other day. I was cleaning out the inside (is yours as nasty as mine today? - ewww!) and gave a little tug and it came right off. Thanks kid! Looks so much better now.

I was ripping crap off of my jeep in the dealer parking lot before the ink was dry

I drove it around a little stock and wheeled it, then based off that I determined what accessories were needed, how much height was needed along with the tire size suited for the terrain. I tested it a few months. now I know what's needed, so as money becomes available, more things get modified.

You can swap your left and right visors so that all those ugly yellow stickers are gone from sight with the visors up.

Pertty much what JDsDream said.
By swapping them from one side to the other it puts those ugly warning stickes out of sight.
They slip off of the rods quite easily, it was a piece of cake.

I thought I might break them so was hesitant to pull on one. It just happened that the other day I was in the right mood, right time, right place.

I originally had a stock 1999 Jeep Cherokee, and my buddys dad had a white cherokee that looked almost identical to this one and I thought it was the coolest freaking thing ever. So I ordered a $500 roof rack, spare tire mount, high lift jack, shovel and axe and all the aux lights. Now the roof rack got delayed and I told them to just ship everything when the rack came in.

About a 2 weeks before all the neat stuff came in I froaded it and hydrolocked it in a 6ft pond and that kinda triggered my wrangler phase. I fixed the Cherokee, found my Wrangler, Sold my Cherokee for $3,800 and Bought my Wrangler the same day 2 hours later for $2,900

Wow long story not needed, but it was my friends dads Cherokee (about 3 days after I got mine) that got me into the aftermarket thing

I know what you mean. I've been the same way, never really had any interest in adding anything to any previous cars. I got my first magazine in the mail from Quadratec, and I want to add everything to it. It's like a disease. A good one though!

Why thank you JD. I hate those ugly stickers and now I will go home and give them a switcheroo. Funny how one can learn some of the most simple mods with the biggest effect on this forum.
