I didn't really search for it...I had wanted one for a year or two but I was driving a Cherokee Country I'd had since 1994. It's a great Jeep,we still have it in fact. Well,my teenage daughter's transmission went out so I gave her the Cherokee and called my best friend who worked at the local Jeep dealership and told her exactly what I wanted in great detail and expected it to take a few days while I got my money together ( I wanted a new one ). She called me back in 10 minutes, found one 70 miles away and it was mine the next morning. That was 6 1/2 yrs ago and I've loved it every minute since I got it.
15 mpg's..so what, it's only 4 miles to work.
Basically, my truck died!
I had a 2001 Chevy Silverado HD Crew Cab 8.1L with Allison transmission which was paid in full. Had a problem with the rod bearings needing replacement and metal shavings were collecting in the engine. Needless to say I was facing having to buy a new motor and didn't want to spend the 7,500 for a Jasper soooooo a co-worker of mine had this Jeep as a 3rd vehicle and told me she had contemplated selling it and offered it to me.
She brought it up to work, I test drove it, gave it a good "onceover" and on October 8th 2010 with 75,822 miles miles on her "Emerson" became mine for 7,000.
The rest is history, and I love it!
I plan to build this one up and in the future, buy a Rubicon once they put a new engine in them.......Come on Jeep, offer a diesel already!
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Ralph Waldo Emerson OlllllllO
I was putting in new windows for my girlfriends sisters boyfreind and looked over and saw a 97 wrangler se just sitting there with dust all over it.Asked him what was up with it and he told me it blew an engine and he bought a new jeep and parked it there.i said would u sell it and he said give me 700 dollars,i went home sold my beater truck for 1100 and went the next day and bought an engine(2.5)with 86,000 miles on it for 900,so i got a really good jeep in excellent condition by luck.
I knew I wanted a jeep when it was time to get rid of my leased Honda Pilot..I looked for about three months and then decided to take a break from looking. One of the nurses I worked with knew I was looking for a jeep, she gave me a call and the next day I walked away with a '99 TJ with 43,000 miles and in amazing condition for $5,000. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship!!
I wasn't really looking for another Jeep (I owned a CJ7 at the time) when I found my TJ. I was bored that day and I started looking through Autotrader.com when all of a sudden I saw it. I dropped everything and immediately called to find out if they still had it. It was love at first sight. Did I mention it tried to kill me, while I was pulling it out of the lot? The accelerator got stuck. I spent three weeks with my mechanic friend trying to debug it. I must have spent over $600 in parts. For a time my neighbors thought I was dating my mechanic!
3 months of looking at classifieds and web postings. Then 4 more months of actually driving out and looking. Drove 3 as I remember. First two scared the crap out of me as you couldn't hold them in one lane at 45 mph! Last one was the keeper.
7 months. I knew that I didn't want to buy a stock one and then put up to $3,000- 5,000 into lifting it, bigger tires, etc... on top of a $23,000 loan. Finally found my baby at noon on a friday online and by 6 pm that evening we were 2 hours away from home test driving her. I had to have her. She's an 06 and at the time she had 20k miles and had never been off road. 5" lift and 33s. I knew she was the one. I love my Jeep.
8 months. looked at 3, the third one was the charm. i got fed up trying to search for one so i posted an ad on craigslist for what i wanted, color, tranny, year, make, model, mileage, and engine. it found me, pretty amazing how everything was just how I wanted it except for the miles, about 20k over what I wanted but eh.
