I don't really pay attention to the price, since I live .8 mile from work, I only fill up about every 2 weeks... when I hit 1/2 tank. But Long Island is usually on the higher end of prices in the country. Not that I'd care.

My wife figured out how to get us a dollar off per gallon at every fill up. First my son is a gamer. We like Netflix, we shop at Kroger, lowes, best buy. We eat at applebees Chilis and a couple other resteraunts local.
Kroger also has a gas station. We joined the kroger plus club, and buy gift cards for all the places mentioned earlier plus what we earn on groceries. You get 1000 points and you get one dollar off. We collect about 1000 points in two weeks. We always fill up together with the discount. Works out to 75% of our gas being a buck off every time we fill up. Thus......
$2.07 a gallon, we do the same thing.

So in all reality you spend several hundred dollars on other stuff to save $20 on a fill up? I'm confused on how your saving?

because you gotta buy groceries anyways, so if you sign up for a kroger card then you get fuel points for buying groceries there..my card said i had 1000 fuel points but i filled up and it didnt give me anything off gotta check that out..been 3.30-3.50 most of the summer here in VA but for the past week its been 3.09 most places, i dont pay much attention though, as stated before you gotta get it regardless of the price so why even bother

With the krogers plus card you save money on your groceries by special discounts for plus members( which is free), With a family of 5 including an 14 yr old boy we buy alot of groceries using the card save us on average 50 dollars a week on groceries and house hold supplies. Plus along with the discounts you get fuel points. Know you going out to eat at one of the many places they have gift cards for buy a gift card at the restaurant instead of cash get extra points. Some items even offer double points. It never cost us anything extra yet with the fuel and card saving it saves us a substantial amount. Now could I shop at Aldis or Save-a-Lot yes but would I save any money? No you might think you would but, package portions tend to be smaller so you have to buy more, fresh meat there is questionable on how fresh it is, and they have no little discount card offering me more off the regular price of food or gas. That what you think costs me more saves me at least a couple hundred a month on my regular everyday purchases like food and GAS.

Meat at aldis?!? Hahaha no way! I would never eat meat from there. Some stuff is ok. I will eat meat from kroger and my local packing plant

Right, not sure how a jeep would do pulling 10000 trailing tons though might be a tough sell.

Well like he said, they use those places anyway so why not buy gift cards and get the points...kinda like why I'll buy a part that is slightly more at autozone because of the rewards program,

Holy sheit evidently your not getting the point! Did you see all the places he said he eats at?! Have you ate at a place like that lately? It's not cheap is it?! Now if I'm looking to save money for the week or money my wife and I don't go out for dinner. That's saving's no spending $100 a week eating out to save $20 in as at the end of the week. Are you beginning to catch my drift?

ROFL. I figured that out at the beginning. Just made sense for him to save money using the points if he was going to do it anyway and not going to cut out dining out. Personally I don't buy into the discount program crap.

I use my credit card points, but don't go out of my way buying stuff to earn them, lol.

Ya me neither. Now if walmart had a savings program like that, it would be on. Always there between my 2 kids and wife. We spend too much money there weekly. Lol it'd be nice to get some savings there.

But anyways the whole reason of this thread. I paid $2.98/GAL without having to spend a few extra hundred last week or any additional savings.

He also buys groceries so he doesn't eat out EVERY night, but NONE of you eat out once a week?! I do. I work at least one night that warrants eating out.

Gas is around $3.15-$3.25 here any given day.

I buy my gas one of two ways. We do 80% of grocery shopping at Bi-lo anyway. They give $0.05 off per gallon every $50 you spend. Since shop there anyway. Once gets around dollar off a gallon I cash in.

Otherwise I get gas from place by Walmart. If you use walmart gift card get $0.10 off per gallon. Since no cost to me use that a lot. Put $200 on every payday and usually last me.

$3.95/gallon on a military installation here on O'ahu. Off post, it's $4.15ish. And this is 87 octane.

OK, Little clarification here.

I buy nothing EXTRA to get the points. Heres an example:

Wife wanted new carpet. Went to lowes and found what she wanted. It was 300 bucks. She then drove across the street literally, and bought a 300 dollar lowes card. Went back and closed the sale. That got us double points that week for a grand total of 600 points. Add that to groceries and then you got 1000 points. We then filled both out vehicles up at the buck off rate and saved about 47 bucks that day.

The resteraunts are about 100 points a month and thats it.
Bought a TV at best buy couple months ago and got it the same as carpet.

It helps that i'm remodeling the house and the full dollar off wont last forever but i'm taking advantage while i can.
I dont encourage anyone to spend more just for the points, the math wont add up, but if my son buys a video game he saved up for then we do the gift card, if were gonna go out and eat we do the gift card, ifwe buy groceries we shop there, and if i'm gonna pay 20 a month for netflix then why not buy 3 months on double points day on a gift card and make 120 points.

You gotta understand the system for it to work and help out any. Didnt mean to kick off a big rukus (ok well maybe a small one).
Wife worked this out, she does that extreme couponing thing too, its amazing how much she saves. Sucks if your in line behind her though.

dude lol its so simple, your over thinking it...he didnt say he goes out to eat at apple bees just to get the fuel points or SAVE money, he is saying this...

if perhaps he gets off work on a friday night and decides he'd like to take the wife and gets out to dinner just to do something special..he decides to go to olive garden.....well instead of going to olive garden and paying, he stops by kroger and buys a gift card to olive garden. he then uses it to pay for the dinner (he was already going to buy the dinner regardless of the gift card) BUUUUTTTT since he bought the gift card (which costs the same as if he woulda paid cash for the meal) kroger gives him fuel points so he saves on gas..................its not that he spends money on restaurants just to save on gas......its just that if he goes out to eat, whenever that may be, he uses the gift card in order to get fuel points.....................do you get it yet?
