It is not what we pay for the vehicle it is what we have sunk into it. I picked up my 1999 TJ tricked out for 10k with only 52k miles on it. Three weeks later I was finally able to drive it around without it dying on me. I had spent more time with my mechanic in those 3 weeks than with my wife. I see now why they sold just a cool looking Jeep.
Did I mention the first day I test drove it, it tried to kill me. The accelerator got stuck and I was thrown into on coming traffic. What a rush! I knew I was in love ;-)
Just bought a 2000 wrangler sport 4.0 auto in September from original owner never been in 4wd or off road for $4000 steel of the century all stock and looks new. They even put seat covers on it the day they bought it to keep the seats new for me lol.
Paid 16k for my 99 in 02. One month and 1000 miles out of warranty. Then the header cracked 2 weeks later! Jeep dealer fixed it for the extended warranty deductible even though didn't have warranty or buy it there!
2000 TJ sport 3spd auto 4.0L. bought about 2 years ago. it had 113,000 miles on it, paid $7500, it came from the factory with 15x8" Gamblers and 30x9.50 tires. it was still stock when I got it. I'm the 3rd owner. it had no real problems just wear and tear. totally love it! here's how it was when I bought it.
