How much should I pay???

So I met a guy and he helped me on my jeep today. He was a dealership mechanic. And he helped me put my front carrier and gears in the front if my axle and helped me put it back together and started tarring off my back axle. He was there for five hours. He said to throw him $50 bucks but what do you guys think is a fair price to pay this guy/new friend that helped me? He said to pay him whatever is a fair price.

Is it $100?

5 hours of labor at a dealership is like $500 I'd throw him at least 100$

Did you say 5 hours? Keep in mind what a *competent* mechanic's fair market hourly rate for that amount of time in your area might be. Are you pleased with the work that was done *and* do you have every indication that it was done correctly? If so, offer your new friend what he asked for and tip him on top of that. If there are any issues, there's no paper trail tying back to the dealership, and little recourse. In that scenario, I defer to other forum members for creative solutions for making your situation right. ;-)

Well , around here its about 800 to have a set of gears installed . If it was done correctly and you are happy with the results then i would give him 150 or so . seeing how he wanted 50 and the dealership charge's about 80 per hour for labor . I dont think it would be unreasonable .
