How to find trails?

How do you find new trails? Are there guides or websites that list them? Is google earth useful? I'm in Florida if that helps.

Try the Florida sub-forums on this site. They can probably point out the legal areas you can go.

Also join or at least talk to Jeep or 4x4 clubs in your area. For most state/natl parkland you'll need to check with rangers and/or buy a permit.

Google works well:

Those reviews were really helpful. I'll continue to research a long those paths. I'll also go to to a couple of those parks and see if conversations with Rangers come up with anything useful.

I've heard references of folks going on fire trails. Is that something that is documented someplace on certain kinds of maps?

Thanks for the ideas.

Not sure how the fire trails are regulated in FLA...up here some are open, some are gated. If I'm not sure of access, I'll check with the DNR (game wardens), just to make sure I'm not going somewhere I'm not supposed to.

There are a number of Jeep clubs listed in the FLA section of WF, by the way. And a couple of members have posted photos of some cool-looking trails – tampa/st. pete area, IIRC.

Hit up a few threads in the FLA section, like jquinn said. They seem pretty active.
