This was stimulated by the relatively current and now locked thread. I have an '08 JKU (had a TJ before that) and will order a '14 JKU once I can see Cooperhead and Amp'd in the flesh, and I am keeping the '08 as well.
I hate my Jeep because it gets crappy gas milage. The 3.8 liter motor is thrashy and wheezy. It only has a 4 speed tranny. It has significant road noise. I sometimes have to turn it off then back on to have the stereo/nav decide to join me. It has no dead pedal. It handles ponderously. It could be the poster child for hard interior plastics. Park benches are more comfortable than its back seat.
Having said that, it is the only vehicle I have ever owned that HAS NOT gone to the dealer with a single problem or defect. I smile every damn time I drive it. My new one is going to wage war on my wallet, but I'm okay with that.
I just can't quit Jeep (and I LIKE that).
Many of the threads on this message board deal with problems (trackbar bolts, head issues, cooling issues, rattles due to bolts left behind, surface rust, spun nutserts, water leaks, etc.) These are not perfect vehicles, but we love them just the same.
I am sorry if posted in the wrong area, and would be happy to have a moderator move it. The point is that in the locked thread somebody came on and complained about his Jeep, and several forum members jumped on him about it. While I think valid points were made about his tone, the fact that he pointed out the JK's are not perfect seems well supported by the posts in this forum. If this is an inappropriate post I'm also happy to have the moderators delete it.
I was just saying what I see expressed often in threads, which is some degree of exasperation with Jeep (the company) and JK's (the vehicle), yet most everyone puts up with this because "there is just something about a Jeep".
His thread didn't bother me much. Of course no vehicle is perfect, if that was the case then the majority of the population who just want a vehicle that takes them from point A to point B would be buying the car with the highest rating.
I didn't think the guy has ever wrenched on his own Jeep. I'm saying this because if something bothers me that bad, I will fix it. Just like when my dash rattled even when I was idling. I ripped the dash out and looked for the problem.
Good grief. Give the guy a freaking break. I love my Jeep, but if there is any single thing that I don't like about it that would be my perception of Chrysler quality. With all I've read about Chrysler's quality problems and on this board about Jeeps in particular, I never quite have the same sense of confidence in my Jeep not to break down that I did with my past vehicles (Ford & Chevy truck).
I don't see what is so bad about this thread. I don't read this to be trolling behavior at all. I can deal with the fact that every post in the JK tech forum isn't going to blow sunshine up my butthole about my Jeep, ffs.
2013 CG JKUR. Bought not built.
I don't understand the point of this thread....just like I didn't understand the point of the thread that was closed.
No one says you have to love Chrysler...but what is the point of ranting against the 3.8 when the 3.8 was replaced by the 3.6 a couple of years ago?
Why rant about the older interior of the pre 2011's when the interior was upgraded years ago?
The OP of the other thread purchased a 6 year old Jeep on a whim last month.....then ranted against things that had already been addressed on the Wrangler...while at the same time saying he didn't want to try out a new Wrangler because it would make his current Wrangler feel 6 years old.
I love my Jeep. It all depends on how well you take care of it. Or, how well the previous owner took care of it. I love my interior too. I've never cared for a Japanese car, I don't care what gas mileage they get. I'm American and I like feeling at home in my vehicle. I don't want to feel like a foreigner in my own car.
If you get a high performance anything in America, you are not going to get great gas mileage. This goes for the Mustangs and the Vets, and most high performance SUV's.
The Toyota RAV 4x4's are wanna be Jeeps. There are tons of wanna-be Jeeps. All those 4x4 pick-up trucks are wanna-be Jeeps. I got the real thing. You've got the best high performance off road vehicle there is, with a Jeep. My Jeep has won wars. What can the Japanese say about that?!
