I need some help with my 4wd

Ok so just a few days ago I went mudding in my '01 wrangler in 4wd. When I got done I took it out of 4wd and haven't tried to put it back in until today. When I go to engage it with the handle there is no resistance like before and the jeep wont go back into 4wd. I have no clue what it could be. Help is greatly appreciated!!
