I painted my bumper but still rusting!

So when i put my rear bumper on last year I primed and painted it,several coats. However I have rust appearing at several places. Some spots where the rust is it look like it was hit with birdshot. Its a rear bumper, not a front.I want to clean all the rust & repaint.Im doing my P.S. front fenders with monstaliner.Would that keep the rust down?

What kind of paint.primer and paint are porous without any clear to seal it. Without the clear your paint job on your jeep would rust through.

hmm I just did this with my sliders. I also didn't use a clear. Just automotive primer and a hammered finish rustoleum. Obviously I'm no paint guru. Hope mine hold up, I'd hate to take those damn things off.

Both of my bumpers were painted with two coats of POR15, then two coats of rustoleum rattle can bed liner. Leaves a sandpaper finish and has been very durable, even off road with no signs of rust.

I sure do wish I'd have thought about that rattle can bed liner. Def would have used that.

Clean it off, sand it down, and POR 15 it....after that you will never worry about rust again and cover it with whatever paint or bedliner you like...

What makes you say that? I am curious because I was going to get some for something else, and have heard nothing but positive reviews. Bad experiences?

Everything i have used it on rusted in weeks or came off in weeks. I tried everything sand blast, grind, marine clean. Nothing worked. Had to redo a classic car because por15 failed. My family runs a shop. We no longer use anything they make. For frames and such use rustolem. Under paint use dp90 over blasted metal.

My discovery.. While blogging about our jeep wrangler (we are the third owners) I was washing and documenting the whole thing online at my blog.. Several days later my wife called from work and said there is a package on her desk from Krylon. Mind you I get stuff like this all the time because companies want to help me maintain our jeep.. but turns out krylon sent me their new Rust Prevention spray paint.. And I was skeptical.. I took and cleaning and area on the frame.. Just cleaned not sanding etc.. Sprayed on krylons rust prevent and wow.. I couldn't believe my eyes.. the rust was lifted off and dropped to the ground.. So I sent an email to Krylon asking what does this rust prevent actually do even sent them pics. they had just created this product and I guess I was one of their ginnypigs.. They told me that the prevent spray dissolves the rust and create a paintable area afterward.. So I took thier gloss black spray paint to finish off the area then clear coated.. I, along with krylon and others where amazed at the end results.

Are you talking about the old DP 90, not the DP90LF i presume? If you want a bullet proof epoxy try PPGs CRE epoxy primer.

Correct regular dp90. I will look into cre thanks.

For me I would blast then do the bedliner onto uncured dp. But for someone at home without access to ppg products rustolem works good.

I have a tube bumper on my jeep. When I got it I scratched it and it begun to rust. Painting wont help. Powder coating on the other hand is much more resistant to scratches and damage. I got my entire bumper powder coated and still today no rust!
