I won't "flock to it" unless it's in the Wrangler.

Aye... If they are smart they'll release the wrangler first as a diesel and then maybe add the Cherokee... But... I don't even own a jeep so... Who am I to say....

Hello, I agree about diesel tech being available in Jeep,as well as option in every class of vehicle.I understand that the Chevy Colorado is going to have 2 diesel engines available-but not in the USA.I would like to know the reasoning behind this.

I read an article from Chrysler that they want to give us a diesel but due to fed regs it would be so restrictive that it wouldn't be worth it or cost effective. I would have thought that since Europe is seeing 50-90 mpg on diesel that it would be a given to bring em here. Chrysler said the future would likely see more ecoboost type v6 turbos.
I would gladly line up to trade my pentastar for a Cummins. Oooooooo I would give my left nut.

I posted considering a custom build with a subaru ee20 engine, but didn't get much of a response.

I've been pricing large components like a frame, crate engine, transmission, steering system, suspension, etc. And at the end of the day the whole cost of the material is comparable to that of a new car. Minus labor.

But I'm not exactly sure what entails making a custom car... lol...

righty tighty?

Just did some reading in Wikipedia so yeah not the greatest info but they reported turbos in 2014. The pentastar will be a available as a v6 turbo putting out 420 & 470 HP. I think we may be seeing the phasing out of diesel. The gas engines of today are already out doing the diesels of yesterday. Although so are the diesels. Some day I would love a 4bt in my jku, just love that rattle.

albeit, I read yesterday in the.... new york post?.... that electric car acceptance has been very slow. Its predicted to be another 10 years before anything real is pushed. The leaf and volt just aren't cutting it. Sad times for fossil fuel alternatives.

Also, VW made that weird 1L diesel hybrid that got like 235 MPG... So dont count diesel out yet... its just a matter of getting the feds to stop thinking about their own pockets and instead about the public's...

It's why im still considering a subaru ee20 in a CJ5 build... sounds possible with a 20k budget...

The diesels these days are soooo restricted. Yeah the MPGs are nice like with the TDIs, but with my Cummins the mileage sucks. The new 6.7s are nowhere near as economical as the 5.9s were without emissions. Even deleted the 6.7 is not nearly as good. I don't know, I guess the MPG and torque would be nice in a smaller package and better on mpgs but the cost of diesel (which I don't see coming down) and the EPAs stronghold just don't make me feel warm and fuzzy. I guess a much smaller displacement would be so much better but doubt a diesel will happen in the wrangler. Who knows.

Lol, I'd love a turbo pentastar. That would be freaking amazing. Do you have a link for that? Did it say a turbo p-star for the wrangler or just that the p-star would be turbo'd?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrys...ntastar_engine

Located at the bottom of Production thread .....

Twin and single turbocharged variants are planned for 2014. These engines are projected to produce around 420 and 370 horsepower respectively. Direct injection is also planned.

....I miss read 370 as 470 but I'm thinking maybe a missprint.

But will they actually come to the Wrangler? And if they do, how much? The answers to these questions keep me up at night.

Well, I just got the green light from the DMV that "as long as the car looks like the original" I can register it like normal. Therefore, I will be pursuing much closer into the 1975 CJ5 with a subaru ee20 flat 4 diesel...

MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Be careful what you wish for.. a buddy of mine brought into Canada a Jeep Cherokee fully loaded with Diesel. He happens to own a garage that fixes trucks and cars. He has 7 doors and has a bunch of mechanics working for him...

He had a problem with the diesel and swears that it cost a fortune to fix. And this comes from a mechanic..

Be very wary of Chrysler diesel and the costs for maintenance..
