Ahhh 17, must be nice . You sound like a pretty bright kid with your whole life ahead of you. I am , like some of the others here, an unemployed electrician (contractor). My advice to you in that field is DON'T do it
Seriously though, do whatever makes you happy, and if you want to make money, try to work for yourself.

Currently unemployed Machinist.

Have done a little fab work here and there in jobs though too. That has come in handy when building jeeps

Good advice indosurf, don't do it! His statement about doing electrical is one of the problems in this field. Most people will go with price over experience and safety. Too many do it on the sides around. Labor and material hardly covers insurance costs. Not much profit.

Maybe you should see about starting a salvage yard. There is a big one north of me that two brothers started with six cars years ago into an impressive operation. They have since sold out to a chain now but I'm sure they don't worry about money anymore.
I'm also another out of work electrician and in WI they take your drivers license number when you take in scrap copper and contact your employer to see if you are stealing it. Heck people have been stripping al siding off of houses to cash in.

All depends on where you are located. Hot humid areas, people live for their a/c. Troubleshooting and repair is better than construction. No construction no work. Also HVAC is good with an electrical background. I'm depending on my electrical knowledge to make me a needed person to rebuild after the revolution happens. I don't think there will be much call for swimming pools and granite counter tops ect.
