For the past 15+ years, I've been a Machinist. The last 8 or so of those as a Journeyman Machinist.
My current job has me manufacturing armored parts for military vehicles.
I've made a lot of parts lately for the replacement to the HMWWV... the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle)
Before this job, I was making parts for medical equipment, the airline industry, mining and fire fighter breathing gear.

Now, If I could just get my own shop to manufacture Jeep stuff!!

How exactly does one get a job such as this? I would like it very much I think..

Started out as an electronics tech I was an AQ (a rate that no longer exists. Aviation Fire Control Tech, U.S.N.), became a software engineer afterward, got tired of getting outsourced, RIF'd, and sitting on my butt.

Now I do electromechanical field service. I work from home, and fix banking equipment. If it's in a bank, I fix it. Great job, OK pay. I've seen my boss twice in the last year. Work van is broke at the moment, so I get to drive the Jeep. Using the company gas card, of course. Glad it's top down weather!

I am co-owner of a medical transcription company that services mainly Duke Hospital. I worked there as a staff assistant for 15 years and got fed up with the crap. So now, I work from home in my PJs and they still pay me!

I would do it for gas money for the Jeep. This has been my dream for years. I have some talents that they could use and I also like to blow stuff up.
I currently work at a Nuclear Plant. Yes I do glow but you have to turn the lights out.
