Some what local truck driver, never out more then a day or two at a time. I always smile as I pull back into the yard and see my jeep, just sitting there waiting for me. *sigh*
Such a beautiful sight...

Trying to start my new career (after 35 years in the construction industry) as a truck driver, just finished 5 + weeks at school, waiting for my final CDL on the road state exam. Any advice? Hoping to haul either construction materials to North Dakota and Lumber back from Canada?

I don't know much about flatbed freight lanes anymore. Big picture, take your time, listen to the older guys (with a grain of salt) and go by your gut. Sort of like when you started wheel'n. It is not a job for everyone, I have made many personal sacrifices to live my childhood dream.

Can tell ya, right now lumber is way down. So is construction due to the economy, you can still make it but you really have to know what your doin.

If you get your CDL and your pretty friendly you could become a bus driver too. Just need another quick written test and a background check.

I work part time as a bus driver. 23 years old. They haven't shown me the ropes for the coaches yet (because I only do short day trips on saturday...) but they trust me with a 40' 52 passenger bus!

I'm a Contractor for Pratt and Whitney during the week.

23 and you got insured?? What brand of coach do you drive? I'm assuming by 52 pax that it's an MCI. I operated a family coach company for six years. But bus driving as a full time career doesn't pay that well. What company do you drive for?

I'm 35, and have driving truck for 14 years. My advice is to try all the different driving jobs. I have hauled reefer, flat bed, multiple axle dri vans and dump trailers, and b trains and truck pup. Finaly settled down with truck pup hauling fuel. It will take a while to find what suits you. Good luck.
