4runners are cool (i had 2) but they are a little to big for me. The TJ will go just about anywhere a 4wheeler can. I bought mine for my deer lease and you should see some of the tight spots I can get it into LOL. The 22re is a good motor but the 4.0 seems to pull better with the lift and tires. I use to get my 86 4runner stuck all the time bc the rear end would catch on stuff and hang up, not with the TJ! They are small but have plenty of room for two guys and hunting gear if you take the back seat out. The TJ has def made a believer out of me.

if you want to go with a really big lift id say go with a jeep, i had a 97 4runner that was great, but the lift options were very limited, that tallest suspension system i found was 3 inches. but i guess it really depends on what u plan on doing with it. the 4runners have a much more useable back seat and storage area, and the power lift gate window is a fun party trick. most 4runners are probly gona run you a little more money though, a good used one seems to be a little expensive compaired to a similarly equipped wrangler. it really just comes down to what ur main need for the truck will be

Try this in a 4runner then get back to us with your decision.

yeah i love jeep because they are American and dont get me wrong america makes the best trucks out there but the only concern is that a 4.0 will go 200k like the 3.0 i just got rid of on my 4runner but ive seen like an extended jeep and i dont know what model it is it looked like a tj but longer and i really liked it just dont know what it is

both the 4 runner and the tj will last a very long time, it really just comes down to lift and storage/ people capacity. a jeep is gona be alot easier and cheaper to do major lift work to compared to a new 4runner. but if you have a family of 5 and have alot of gear, the 4runner offers the better set up. you can carry all the gear and people in a jeep, but if u dont find a long wheel base tj, then it might take some money as far as roof racks and exterior storage goes. one thing that you have to worry bout the 4runer is the spare tire, its under the truck so its not the best spot if u do serious offroading and get a flat, in fact in normal street driving teh 4runner's spare location can be a pain in the ass(learned that one the hard way)

the 4.0 is an inline 6, it leaves you alot of room to work, definatly less cramped then the v6 in the newer 4runners

yes very easy to work on.
if you plan on doing lift and tires, make sure you find one with a rear dana 44. auto and stick options are there.

there is nothing wrong with Dana 30/35 enless ur rock crawling up the Grand canyon or something and not upgrading past 35in tires!! I do some wheeling with my D 30/35 and 33's and my axles are holding up just fine!!

can you go topless and doorless in a 4runner ? there is huge aftermarket support for jeep parts plus there are tons of parts that easily interchange between different years. and yes the 4.0 I6 will last you well beyond 200K, especially if regular maintenance is done.
