I currently have a Toyota FJ Cruiser 4x4 with a few mods. Truly an outstanding vehicle. However, I have always been a huge fan of Jeep Wranglers. I love their looks and I always get really excited when I see a Jeep with big tires and and lift. unk: I was on Craigslist and I found a listing for a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X 6-Speed with 33"x12.5x15 tires/wheels, 4.5" lift, and a few other mods, here is the actual link to the car: 2005 jeep wrangler X
My main concern here is gas mileage. I am currently getting anywhere from 14-18mpg on my modded FJ (3" lift, 32" tires, roof racks and roof lights, exhaust) and was wondering what I should expect from a Jeep Wrangler with those mods in terms of gas mileage. How much worse would the Jeeps gas mileage be, if at all worse? Does this look like a solid vehicle?
I have a 06 unlimited and I get about 14 mpg. Its a good choose a wrangler is 100 times better than that fj. I have a 6 speed to and all I hear is good things about them. Just hold on for some other opinions. The are alot of knowledgeable people on this sight that know alot more than me. Thats my 2 cents.
My answer is completly biased, due to the fact that I love jeeps period. And fjs are definitly different with 3 windsheild wipers that are all different sizes
i think close to the same fuel mileage. and it will run circles around your toyota. not that im bashing toyotas because if there was no such thing as jeep my favorite off roader would be a tacoma.
I use 87 Octane, with 10% ethanol or less. Every few tanks, I use a dealer with no ethanol, but still 87 octane. I'd run it all the time, but it averages $0.30 more per gallon. 15-17 MPG. Mostly stop and go traffic for a 22 mile commute,
My coworker has 2 2WD FJs that he rotates. He averages about the same.
Id make sure that jeep has had the axles regeared for those tires. If not then you'll either be hating life due to lack of power or ponying up $1200-1800 to regear to 4.56.
Just get the Jeep, you won't regret it! I just calculated my mileage at 11.3 mpg :banghead:, but it is totally worth it. I cry a little when ever I fill up, but then I remember how lucky I am to have a Jeep Wrangler, so then I smile If you're into offroading, I think that the Jeep you're looking at is going to get you a lot further than your FJ, that Jeep is pretty sweet. Plus, those Inline 6's are absolute beasts, last forever! And I've never heard any testimonies about the longevity of FJ's, but all in all, the Jeep Wrangler is just about the awesomest vehicle ever! (I almost called it a car :hide
If you want longevity, buy a camry. Toyota so far has been an average to slightly above off road vehicle manufacturer. My experience has been the cheap Japanese sheet metal will give out long before the engine. Reliable engines, yes. Body? Not so much.
The FJ is a nice vehicle, but it's not in the same class with a jeep for off road.
I like the FJ - and a few guys in our club wheel them. They perform quite well. That being said, of the folks that own them, most say they wish they could take the top down (off) on a nice day. Other than a Wrangler, I can't readily think of a convertible SUV in the market.
Doesn't pulling the top and the doors off make the decision for you? You're a jeeper so grab the one that suits you.
