Question **insurance**

I just got my jeep and i am not driving it yet so i do not have insurance on it. I heard jeeps are a little pricy on insurance even for 4 cylinders... is this true? compared to maybe a 4 cylinder s10 pickup....

I did not have a significant increase in insurance cost from my Ranger to my Jeep. Maybe cause I am in my 30s now and have a clean record for several years. I think it was like $60 a year increase.

I pay $75/mo for full coverage through Geico with increased limits and lower deductibles and a clean driving record...when I break it down, it cost bout the same to insure as my V6 Dakota I had.

You're a 16 year old male. Of course it's going to be expensive. But so would insuring a Geo Metro. Call your agent, or plug some numbers into one of the web sites.

The other day, I drove by the local high school just as it was letting out. Scary as hell! No wonder you guys have to pay so much. I'm sure you are different, though!

My son, a straight A student, 19 y.o. and with a clean record would have to pay $4800 a year for any decent vehicle. No breaks for anything. Two years ago it would have been $5900 for any vehicle. Heís lucky, I let him drive my old Grand Cherokee which is insured as a business vehicle. I pay no difference in premium because he is also an employee.

Your parents won't put it on their plan? Anyone can insure any car, doesn't have to be theirs or even if they drive it. Mine is on my parents plan, and full coverage is $100/month for me. We have Progressive, and switched last year from Farmers.

Holy crap you're getting screwed dude!

When I was on my dad's insurance plan, at 19 with a clean driving record...for liability only, it cost $31/mo. Was a bit more when he still had me on full coverage, but nowhere NEAR $4800/yr.

Edit: My dad also had a DUI on his record...plus a speeding ticket.

I think what he did was had me listed as the primary driver of the minivan he owned but I was still covered to drive the truck since it was on the same policy.

That was with Allstate Insurance btw...I use Geico now. Geico was a bit more expensive, but I've heard they are very good to deal with in the event of an accident so I was willing to pay a little extra.

Jeep wranglers for the most part are relatively cheap to insure. costs for comp and collison are cheaper than most vehicles. this is due to relatively lower costs to repair compared to other vehicles. the liability coverages, medical etc. that is based upon the driver and their record. being as young as you are, you are going to pay through the nose, one way or the other.
sorry to be the bearer of that news.

Geico wonít insure me. Something about an old accident with one of their insured when driving a garbage truck in Chicago. One of their insured drove his car under my truck wheels and they seemed to think that it was my fault. My insurance company AND the Chicago police felt otherwise.

you can always call and have a quote ran.. that doesn't mean you have to get insurance THAT day.. and quotes are good for 30 days (worked for State farm a little over a yr) youll need your vin for that, ssn, addy, driver lic #

i'm 20 (3/1 i'll be 21) and my insurance is going down over 200$ every 6 months if i buy this jeep..however i have a "sports car" so it just depends. also since your 16 your parents records will be taken into consideration esp if you go on there policy, which may be cheaper.. whos name is on the title of the jeep?? if it's one of your parents let them be the primary driver and you the secondary or even on a cheaper car.. and only tell them you are driving to school and work thats it. thats all they need to know.

lol that sucks...that's why I've never used State Farm. They dropped my dad after he took off some idiot's door in a gas station. Her kids flung the door open from the inside as he was driving past their car leaving the station and it ripped the door off. A police officer happened to be there and while it was on private property, he wrote up a witness statement for him stating that my dad was in no way responsible for what happened...my dad gave the statement to his State Farm agent, the owner of the vehicle filed a claim against my dad stating that it was his fault, and instead of fighting for him, State Farm said that he was at fault and that he either needed to pay up or they would drop him. My dad told them to take their demands and shove them up their @ss...and then switched to All State.

ur getting taken to the cleaners big time. ive got reckless and an accident on my record and im still paying no where near that much. the car i have right now is about 1 grand a year. a jeep would be about 1200-1400 based on some quotes ive gotten for full coverage

Just reread this thread. Iím not paying that much for my insurance. Those were quotes for my son on his own policy. Iím paying around $800/year. My son would pay around $4000 more if I didnít let him on mine when he gets his Jeep.

what the f***... 4K on insurance alone is that for real?

I'm 23, 2 speeding tickets last year, and I'm scouting a wrangler less than $10K...

Starting my own policy, what do you think my insurance cost gonna be.... if it were gonna be that much like your son's, this is gonna end up a "no game" for me...
