I am wanting a winch but unable to pay very much money for one and was wondering how difficult it is to find one that is used but cheap and worth having. I don't want to get a piece of crap. If you guys know of anywhere other than ebay and craigslist that might have them let me know. Thanks.

Good luck, you'll need it.

However, if you're looking for cheap (reliable) winches, there are a couple out there. The cheapest I've seen is a Harbor Freight (made by Ramsey) 8K for $300. There are a couple of others out there that run a smidgen more than 300 and are still decent. Unless you stumble across some recent widow who is cleaning out the garage and finds her departed husbands Warn 9.5 TI still in the box with no idea about it, I doubt you'll find a winch for under 100 that is ready to go.

Those Harbor Freight winches pretty much the same as everything else Harbor Freight has?

Not very likely.

Northern tool and equip has some good prices too. Maybe this is a good time to discuss acceptable ratings.

my harbor freight 10k has never let me down. here is a website with a 20% off(never expires) printable coupon for harbor freight. i think with the huge sale going on plus 20% off WITH the replace no matter what warrenty it came out to be like $375ish. (its normally $500 w/o the warrenty i believe)
