Is it worth it getting a hard top?

I have an 08 Wrangler Unlimited with a soft top and have considered getting a hard top. I have a couple of questions for those with experience in this matter:

1. Does a hard top reduce the highway noise enough to be worth the effort and expense? Mine is so noisy on the California freeways that you have a difficult time having a conversation or listening to music.

2. I'm reading about people with water leakage problems. Do they regularly leak?

I had one on my 00' TJ and I do miss it. It was quieter than my soft top and was easier to get into the rear when needed. I never had leak issues with mine.

Mine doesn't leak. It might be a little bit quieter than a soft top but not by much. I like that I can leave it parked at the airport or outside and have the peace of mind that someone is less likely to mess with my Jeep.

I like my soft top but I would have anything else than my hard top for winter (I know not a problem for you).

But you're asking for quietness. I found that when I switched to my hard top a month ago, that it was being like into a different Jeep, a lot more quiet (I have the regular, not premium), like night and day.

But my soft will be back in spring. I like it, it's like having 2 different Jeeps along the year.

I have both tops and there's a night n day difference w wind noise. I live in MN and I only use my hardtop for a few months. Although I have a soft top it only gets used when it's raining. You can always buy a louder system too!

1. I can't speak on the soft top but I don't find my hard top all that noisey compared to other vehicles.

2. My roof panels only leak if I don't tighten or position them correctly.

I only have a hard top so I can't help with the noise part. As far as leaking mine is 8 years old and it has a few small drips when it's raining hard or when a ton of snow on top starts to melt. But it's not a big deal to me at least!

I have both as well and plan to keep using both. No leaks from the hardtop and significantly less road noise compared to my soft top. My hardtop is also great in the winter with defrost and the rear wiper.

I bought my TJ with a soft top and bought a hardtop a month later for the winter. Its totally worth it if you have the space to store it for the summer. I dont ever see me owning just one top unless i live somewhere warm year round
