My jeep is lightly modded. I wave all the time...rarely get waves back. The ones I get waves back from are quite random, had 2 JK's that I know of, an old CJ, and less than a handful of TJ's.

Its ok though, The other exotic owners don't wave at me in the Lotus either. Snobs! However I did have a guy in a red Jeep wave at me and give me thumbsup about 2 wks before I got my jeep...

Cheesed off in Jersey

To those who have stereotyped me as a Jersey boy? I am from South Jersey. We are a completely different species from those up North which are akin to New Yorkers. South Jersyites have more in common with Pennsylvania and Delaware. No polluted rivers, stinking swamps and smoke filled skylines, big hair, Big Pussies, track suits, or 'hey gumbah!' 'fuhgettabouttit' urban accents here. I am weary of explaining this misnomer about New Jersey. North and South are really completely different states. From now on I am saying I am from Vermont...lol Anyone for maple syrup?

Jeez, how big is New Jersey again? lol, and I thought northern and southern California were a fairly big difference. But you really can't just break Cali down into 2 categories. Southern California is speckled with bits of Mexico that came up with the wind, then you can choose between desert people and beach people. Go up to the north and you can choose between the "leftest-of-the-left" and the more Oregon like hunters, fishermen and general rednecks. Then theres L.A.....

Wavetastic day

I am happy to report the wave is alive and well in SOUTH Jersey. I have encountered three oncoming Wrangler TJs so far today whose drivers flipped me the peace sign. A mature gentleman. A younger guy. A 30ish chick. Thus a very broad demographic. Of course I returned the gesture and will initiate a wave when the opportunity presents itself. Saw an Unlimited up close today in a local car park. Those things are behemoths. I suppose the extra length does come in handy. I recently brought home a 50 inch plasma in my Wrangler. Had to take it out of the box and push all the seats waaaaaaaay down. But I did get it home. Where there's a will there's a way. Maybe I'll buy a small trailer to tow my gardening supplies home from Lowes.

Regards,

Brandt

This is too funny! Around here (Michigan) the Jeep wave from Wrangler to Wrangler is about 90% but 4-door Jeepers almost never wave. If the Jeep is topless, usually the whole body is seen up over top of the windshield waving like a crazy person. Me, I always wave- male, female, young, old, modified or not- don't care am just happy to be a jeeper

I guess I have my own slightly skewed preconceptions about California. I imagine everyone lives in those ticky tacky boxes in prefab communities like on WEEDS. "A moment of silence for the dirt shrew please..."

Jeep wave guidelines

I came across these JEEP WAVE guidelines on another website. Do they have any validity? I was dismayed to learn we TJ owners were so low in the hierarchy and were required to initiate the wave in almost all circumstances. According to these guidelines, non-moded TJs are above only waggoneers in the Jeep hierarchy. How alarming!...lol

I wave - and when they don't return the favor, I toss a out the window. I figure they'll get the hint or at least return the finger.

What part of Vermont? We've got seven specific sub cultures of our own. Down get me started on those rich urban transplants from Manchester or the hippies in Brattleboro!

That guide is the stupidest damn thing ever written. Any Jeeper who believes in that guide deserves to have their Jeep taken from them and be forced to drive a Dodge Neon for life.

the wave is dying and it pisses me off!!! Jeep owners should respect each other and wave stock or not, and waving at a JK is pretty much a waste of time , I hope the Jk people look at this thred and see thier mistakes!!!

I have notice the same thing when driving around and it really bothers me. for all my life i have been raised knowing that when in my dads wrangler it is a must to wave to other jeeps. I now have a jeep of my own and i NEVER miss an oppertunity to wave.. The trend i have noticed is that ( and when i say this dont bite my head off in an angry rant ) the non wavers tend to be those who drive jeep JK's. I know there are die hard jeep owners that do drive jeep JK's and im not aiming that comment at you.... I hope the wave dosnt die off because if it does the part of the Jeep Wrangler culture and awesomeness will be dead

Which is why I asked. As a Jeep neophyte I must rely on you veterans for my Jeepucation. I am very relieved to hear that this guide is not some standardised and revered manual to which I am obligated to adhere. Particularly since it places we TJ owners on the bottom of the rung. 'Forced to drive a Dodge Neon for life?' Have crueler words ever been spoken?

@tjlongworth: I was rebuffed today when waving to an Unlimited driver, and in fact given a rather disapproving sneer to boot. I am sure the Unlimited drivers on this forum are all wonderful people, but the ones in my area are very un-wrangler-like. You might as well wave to a Hummer or Lexus S-class.

That's actually nicer than what I was going to say. I was trying to remember that stupid little crossover that looked like a Del Sol w/ a lift kit, but I couldn't remember what it was called.

Best way to keep the wave going is to keep waving.

I just shed a tear . . . sounds like it might be time to sell the Jeep and buy a Vespa . . . those happy guys always wave.

After reading these posts, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to initiate or return a wave in good conscience again, unless of course an attractive female is involved.

Prost!

@schmo - Jeesh, forget a wave. I can't even get included in your case by case critique of every poster in this thread. I feel like such a non-entity.

I think the odds of getting a wave from a glaucomic misanthrope driving a PT cruiser with a fogged up wind screen are greater.

How could I possibly criticize someone on who is on quest for knowledge and searching for answers to life's important questions such as:

It's funny, I also ride a Harley and it's pretty common to get the wave or nod from other riders, especailly if they are on a HD. Regardless, you'll never hear someone at the biker bar say:

"I'm so pissed . . . I waved at that BoozeFighter on the FXR but he didn't wave back at me"

Now, as a fellow HD rider, I can't argue w/ that .

Im going to start counting Jeeps I waved at but get nothing back, So far I'm at 3 from today.

The upstate wave is alive and well, both guys and girls. And it doesn't matter if you are driving a new stock TK, or a modded YJ.

Very cool.

I'll add my .02 cents

The wave is very much alive up here, guys, girls, stock, modded, makes me feel great....the only ones I don't usually get a wave from is the 4dr jk's. Usually soccer mom is driving that and she has no idea why people wave at her but it makes her feel pretty so she just fluffs her hair and keeps on driving without returning a wave.

God....I hope my wife don't read that!!!! She wanted to drive my old CJ for years but wouldn't learn to drive a clutch. When I bought my YJ back in the winter it had an automatic and I couldn't get her out of it. I ended up trading her car in on a four door JK (My bad...she wanted a two door) cause I figured since we had the YJ we might need an extra seat for when the grand kids came. She wouldn't drive the JK until it had a lift and some bigger tires on it. I had to beg, steal, and borrow for years to get a lift and some tires on all my jeeps! Anyway she has become a seasoned "roughneck" as she used to refer to me and my old jeep. She gets pissed when she passes a soccer mom in a JK and they don't wave!

Damn I love her!
