Very cool.
It seems to be alive and well here in South Jersey as well. Now that I know what the wave is ( I have been a Jeeper only one ecstatic Month), and have been initiating waves and waving back, I get about a 90% response. I think many of those who don't wave are somehow distracted and don't notice me in time. I no longer bother waving to Unlimited drivers. They always snub me and I end up with bruised feelings.

People here seem to favour the 'oh so cool' hand on the steering wheel two fingers extended peace sign which I heard was originally a Southern and rural thing. But I like it and use it myself. It's the ladies who seem to wave frantically, often with full arm motion - even female passengers. If they are cute and in my age group, I will wave accordingly.

Is it me, or are we Wrangler driving men just a little bit sexier than ordinary guys?

B.

I was hoping my most likely undecipherable German language message to Nicolas-Eric would tick you off. Apparently you are a crank of great patience and discipline never to be goaded into a response, striking only when it suits your fancy.

Down here jeepers have stolen the motorcycle wave, 2 fingers out the door pointed at the ground.

Ich finde nicht Ihren Gebrauch von Deutschem, störend zu sein. Die einzige störende Sache ist Ihre Frage über, ob Männer, die Wranglers fahren, reizvoller als übliche Männer sind.

When I'm on the road, I'm either in a Jeep or on a Harley, I must be getting old cause even though I'm sharp as a marble and have slug like reflexes I have a hard time deciding whether to wave or not when someone pops up over a hill. I've figured out a remedy for the problem, I wave at all Jeepers and bikers reguardless of what i'm riding.

You are too much Schmo. I think I am going to like this forum. People with actual personality, intelligence, and a sense of humour. How uncommonly refreshing. And relax: I meant 'our' incremental attractiveness to the ladies as Wrangler men, not each other...lol

It's been covered, but I think the newer body style and the people they are marketing it to (people who can't afford the truck-a-saurus SUVs but want that look) are causing the issue. I know the JK is an offroad bad@$$, but the majority of their owners are clueless and quite likely yuppies. CJs, YJs, an most TJs will wave. What I truly enjoy is coming across the enthusiastic, fist-pump, duct-tape special wavers. Always nice to see a Jeep reach in and touch the inner-child of the driver.

I like my off-the-assembly-line Wrangler, and I wave, or give the two finger salute to every Jeep Wrangler 2 door headed in my direction. However, I do notice the guys with the bass decals on their side panels, an observable degree of wear and tear, and a little mud here and there, more than not seem to have the Jeep spirit.

It seems to be alive and well in Texas. I'd say 8 outta 10 waves most of the time.

I like waving at complete strangers. Actually i had some guy turn around and follow me after waving to him. Turns out we work the same place and he has seen my TJ in the parking lot. Still a little creepy....

I always wave. I've had 3 real jeeps so far, a CJ7 then a TJ and now a YJ. ( I know I went from old to new then back to old ) I will always wave. Maybe not one of those Liberty so called Jeeps.

Being new to having a jeep, even I knew of waving. Southern Az is like jeepville, tons of them here. Waving is only from enthusiastic jeepers. The college kids and the soccor moms don't wave at all. Most JKs don't wave. CJ, YJ and TJ is where the waving is at about 50% of rhe time. But getting people in outer cars that wave...

I think Liberties are beautiful, quality vehicles and almost bought one. But they aren't even remotely connected to Wranglers in my opinion. I would feel as odd waving to a Liberty driver as to a Ford Focus driver, and the liberty driver would probably wonder why I was waving, trying to remember if I was someone they knew.

We have a lot of Wranglers here in my area of South Jersey, and the return wave ratio is pretty high. It got even higher once I learned why other Wrangler drivers occasionally waved at me since I began driving my recently acquired Sahara - and I began initiating waves, and waving back. It's always nice to belong to something exclusive. The camaraderie amongst Wrangler owners is a nice perk I hadn't expected. It's a privilege doing my part to keep the wave alive.

Regards,

B.

"Schmo" your killing us! Ever since i got into jeeps the jeep wave is something that i have always enjoyed and try my hardest to do! And it kills me to see alot of people not waving, its like people dont even know what there driving anymore, and like i said before its usually JK's that dont wave, but i wave at any wrangler or CJ modded or not , and i will wave at any modded XJ as well. Its something we jeepers need to keep doing.

Just an update on my little Jeep wave experiment, check the sig, the results aren't good. I will keep doing it though, maybe the numbers will turn around.

Note: I am waving at all CJ's and Wranglers regaurdless of "froad" status.

Well I passed 2 TJ's this morning, I waved at both, and I got one wave back. The Lady with the hardtop, smoking a cigarette didn't wave. I shoulda held my jimmy out the window, that'd get her attention

Hell, I didn't even know about "The Wave" when I bought mine last month, until a detective buddy of mine (who is also a Jeeper) told me about it. Living in a big college town and with the rich people here at the lake we have, there are quite a few Jeeps riding around. I can say the wave is alive and well here in Milledgeville!

In about 45 days of Wrangler ownership, I haven't been waved to once by an Unlimited driver. I myself gave up waving to Unlimiteds after being snubbed 100% of the time. Funny thing happened today. I drove to our local park to do a little fishing, and ended up parking right next to the flashy red 4 door which had just passed me without so much as looking in my direction. I actually walked up to the soccer mom driving it who had 3 kiddies in tow, and engaged her in conversation. She told me she had never heard of the Jeep wave, and that she had bought her JK basically as a family mini-van replacement with no particular Jeep enthusiasm; she had just thought it looked 'pretty'. I am sure she and I will now wave when passing each other -we both live in the same community - but I haven't the time or energy to interview every JK owner as to why they don't wave. But I'll try and convert them when the opportunity presents itself. I think it's been said here before: many JK drivers aren't Jeep enthusiasts. They are just looking for a big shiny SUV that doesn't cost quite as much as a hummer. CJ, YJ, and especially TJ drivers really seem to possess the Jeep spirit in my area. Almost 100% wave or return a wave.

I always have a camera...

I was unaware of the wave as well, and have also owned my Wrangler a little over a Month. The wave seems to be alive and well here in South Jersey as well. People either initiate or return a wave almost 100% of time. TJ, CJ and YJs at least.

It's too bad that you don't wave to Unlimiteds. I own a TJ Unlimited and I wave at every Wrangler that I pass, stocks, mods and even those that have a trail of red dust (rust) following them. I even wave to JK's. Granted the JK owners don't wave back as often, but they are learning. So be patient and throw out your hand, you may be surprised.

I didn't know about the wave when I bought my Wrangler last week, but joined this forum the same day and since then I have waved at every jeep I see ... and so far not one person has waved back! LOL I think people are just not as friendly here in California.
